I'm Rachel, a warm, caring childminder and mother of two fantastic children. I provide a homely, fun environment within which children play and develop.
Located within a leafy area of Plymouth, I have a large home with countless toys and a secure enclosed garden. I also encourage plenty of outdoor play from bug hunting to jumping in puddles! We venture out daily, attending a variety of groups as well as taking full advantage of local parks and the local area such as Wembury Beach and Plym Woods.
I am always hunting for exciting activities and provide a combination of messy play, craft, natural resources and anything else the children express interest in! Additionally, playing the piano, flute and guitar enables me to introduce children to a variety of fun musical activities. More information is available on my website.
Valuing the importance of knowing your child is safe and happy I produce a blog for parents to view their children in action!
In addition to being a mum of two I have been childminding since 2010 and was graded GOOD by Ofsted during my latest inspection.
I am currently studying towards a foundation degree in Early Years Education with the Open University.
Having gained accreditation with the Trio Childminding Network I receive regular support from an Early Years Advisory teacher.
I have a great support network through regularly meeting with local childminders.

I am able to accept children who receive two and three year old government funding.
Fees are tailored to each family's needs so please contact me with any requirements.
I am happy to consider term time only contracts at no additional charge.
I am happy to accept payment through childcare vouchers.

My Son has been in Rachel's care for 18months and I could not recommend her enough. We initially viewed a variety of childcare providers but upon meeting Rachel our mind was made up.
She offers a safe and practical learning environment within her home and our son has come on leaps and bounds whilst in her care. The children are not confined to the indoors either, Rachel regularly takes them on adventures to the local parks, aquarium and even pennywell farm!
Rachel is keen to involve the children in numerous activities pushing them to explore different things and keeps the parents updated with a diary which the children bring home. I think this is a fabulous touch as it means we are kept up to date with what our son has been up to.
Rachel is an excellent childminder and is highly recommended. If I have any more children I would not hesitate a second in placing them with Rachel.

My son has been with Rachel since he was about 10 months and is now 2 and a bit. He absolutely loves it and her and the other kids. He also attends a nursery 1 day a week and always says "no Rachels" when I tell him he's off to nursery.
The thing I like the most is that she takes the kids to lots of different groups and they are always out doing something so he gets to mix with lots of other children on a daily basis.
She feeds them a healthy diet everyday and they are constantly active. I enjoy reading the daily diary of what he's been up to, what he's eaten and how long he's napped for.
I also like that they have a large space to play and learn in and aren't confined to one room and also get out of the house most days as well.
My son loves it and I would recommend Berkeley childminders to anyone! I hope there is space if we have another child.

Our son has been spending one day a week with Rachel since Jan 14. We've been very pleased with the care he's received and the fun and creative activities that the children do. For example, trips to Pennywell Farm, the beach, woods and lots of creative art and messy play. We were very happy with Rachel's range of qualifications and that she's an experienced mum. Rachel made a big effort to make our son feel settled when he was suffering from separation anxiety. Her house is a lovely family home with lots of fun and creative toys. After a not so positive impersonal nursery experience we looked for a childminder and found Rachel and we were very happy that our son got to spend time with the same 2 other children each week and liked the personal touch of monthly photos in his diary showing all the things he'd been doing. Also good to see his learning journey. We were worried that our son wouldn't settle for naps, but he adapted to the routine easily. We were also pleased with the range of healthy lunches that Rachel cooks for the children. Overall we would highly reccommend Rachel as a reliable, caring childminder.

We decided to place our wee boy with Rachel after much deliberation over the number of options out there - and we are so pleased we did! So much so that now baby number 2 is on the way the first thing we did was check she could accommodate him / her once I'm back to work!
Jack has progressed so much under Rachel's care - as the previous review said as a parent you are informed of the plan on a monthly basis which makes the carryover at home easy. She also communicates with our son's pre school regularly by sharing monthly plans which means we are all singing from the same songsheet. It is something they have commented on specifically as they don't see it often from other childcare providers.
Our son is always more than happy to go in the morning and more often than not he'd rather stay than come home!!
The daily diary is absolutely great as she goes into great detail what they've done and eaten that day so you know exactly what they're doing every day. The monthly photo montage is fabulous and as well as this she puts photos onto her blog on a regular basis which my family absolutely love as they live far away and are keen to keep up with what he's doing - to see photos of this as well makes such a difference. The quality of the photos has also been commented on by various people, my husband included and being a photographer himself is saying something!
All in all we couldn't be happier with Rachel's care - she provides a lovely, warm welcoming home environment meaning I can go to work without a worry that Jack will have a great time while developing into a lovely wee boy. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for childcare in Plymouth.

The decision to place our youngest with Rachel (our oldest two attended a nursery) was the best decision we've made! Our daughter has been so happy with Rachel and the wide range of activites and therefore experience that Rachel has given her has helped her to develop into a confident, lovely, funny and easy-going child.
Rachel's daily diaries have far exceeded those from any of the previous nurseries we've used, so we really do know what she's been doing and how she's been! Rachel also provides a monthly photo montage which gives us even more insight into what our daughter does, and has turned into a wonderful record of her development.
Rachel was so willing to adapt her routines to suit our daughter (like providing her main meal of the day at lunch-time so that she'd actually eat it!) and has always taken the time to find out what we'd like her to focus on on a monthly basis. One of these was to encourage our daughter to walk more rather than use the buggy - and although it made for slower trips to the park, she was happy to help and now our daughter will walk with little fuss. We think that the fact that everyone who was caring for her was giving her the same message helped her to learn more quickly.
Rachel shares her monthly plans with us so we know what our daughter will be doing and can follow up at home, she also asks for our input so we can share with Rachel what our daughter is doing with us (good and bad!).
When we were getting a bit worried about our daughter refusing to name colours as "red" or "blue", Rachel was reassuring and focussed on this in a gentle way, and sure enough, a few weeks later our daughter was describing colours correctly. Not wishing to tempt fate, but so far, we have had very little attention seeking behaviour (biting or hitting) from our youngest which points to a settled, well cared for child. She comes home ever day with a happy smile and runs off each morning to play with her friends.
All in all, I would highly recommend Rachel to you if you are looking for quality childcare from someone who you can rely on and who will care for you child in a thoughful, kind and calm manner.
