I believe being outside and free to roam is very important for children and their development, therefore I try and fill most days with children exploring the natural world through nature based play. Of course every child is different so these activities vary depending on interest, personalities, age and situation. For example we could simply collect different shells at the beach or go for a walk through the woods. Or go on a bug search in the garden or build a den.
I am also creative so I like to do lots of art and craft with the children and am not afraid of getting my hands dirty.
I see myself as an out going and happy person. I have a lot of patience when I'm around children. I am a good listener and like to help out and give advise where needed. I am very good at communicating and am not afraid of new challenges.
My Experience
I have 15+ years experience working with children, in nurseries in my home town in Exmouth, Devon and I have nannied for two families since moving to Cornwall in 2017. I also work as a fully qualified forest school teacher in Constantine.
During my time working as a nursery nurse, I have been room leader and senior nursery nurse for children aged 6-18months and a Key Person for toddlers (2-3years old). My main duties at these nurseries were to plan activities and toys around each child's individual development needs, which also follow the EYFS, making good relationships with the children's parents/carers and the child, and also good communication with staff.
During my time working at one nursery I became a one-to-one for a child with additional needs. I was able to support them through their development in all different areas. I would build a strong relationship with the parents/carers to ensure the development was continued at home and would attend SENCO meetings with other childcare services too.
There are gaps in my career where I have spent time traveling. Whilst in Australia, I spent 9 months of my time in Sydney where I worked as a live-in nanny for a two and five year old. This role required me to have a good relationship with the parents and the children, be flexible in my hours, cooking the children's meals, arranging outings to the park/play groups, daily routines such as bath and bed time and drop off and pick up from their nursery as well as liaison with other carers.
Now I am based in Falmouth, Cornwall where I have worked as a Live Out Nanny for a lovely family of three aged between 3-7 years old. When they went to school I was lucky enough to find another lovely family of three, then aged between 8 months - 7 years (now 3-9 years!).*** This role will reduce in September 2024 when the youngest goes to school.***
I also work at a local woodland school two days a week.
