About Me

OFSTED 2022 grading - OUTSTANDING in all areas
***One space Monday - Thursday Full Days - available from September 2024 - contact me for details***

I'm an Ofsted Outstanding childminder. I work with a co-childminder also rated Outstanding.

I provide an ambitious curriculum - which is what I want the children to learn in the time they are with me. My curriculum is based on the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through the seven areas of learning. It is unique to my setting and follows the children’s curiosities and interests. Underpinning everything is:
• British Values
• Independence
• Kindness
• Communication

Children learn through play, by adult-modelling, by observing each other and through adult-guided learning. I incorporate elements from the Curiosity Approach, Hygge, Montessori and Forest School.

I work to nurture each child’s natural desire to learn and understand the world around them through play and by following their interests. Children are unique, naturally curious and thrive in mixed-age environments focused on hands-on discovery and self-motivated growth. I place emphasis on independence and learning new applicable life skills.

It is very important for children to spend time outdoors and to have a variety of experiences to develop a rich culture capital. We visit local parks, meadows and woodlands, museums, National Trusts sites, farms and animal sanctuaries, the library, the local green grocer and many others.

Children play and learn in a ‘home from home’ environment that incorporates the Hygge concept – a cosy, contented mood evoked by comfort, happiness and feeling welcome. My continuous provision includes real, everyday items for the children to use and explore, to evoke their natural curiosity and support them to figure out the world around them. Most resources are made of natural materials, and encourage creativity and problem-solving.

Working as co-childminders, the children benefit from two different settings, two adults and additional children with whom to play and learn. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships in enabling environments.

By the time children leave my setting, I aim for them to be:
• Kind, with a positive sense of self and the ability to manage their emotions
• Resilient, able to set themselves goals and persist to achieve them
• Independent, able to look after their bodies and make healthy choices
• Well-developed in the spoken language with an extensive vocabulary
• Able to climb, balance, run and jump, as well as make fine motor movements like sewing a running stitch
• Voracious readers with a love for all kinds of books, rhymes, poems, and songs
• Confident and grounded in numbers 0 to 10, understanding relationships between them and patterns within them
• Well-rounded individuals, having had many personal experiences in the cultural, social, technological, and ecological world around them
• Imaginative, creative, and expressive through a variety of media and materials

I work in partnership with parents and, where children also attend other early years providers, with those settings - to ensure the best outcomes possible for each child.

Reviews

Below are the latest reviews for Kathryn. Please note that reviews represent the subjective opinions of other Childcare.co.uk users and not of Childcare.co.uk. My little one has been with Kathryn for 3 years and has learnt so much! I have never had any doubts about leaving her with Kathryn, who provides a totally reliable, honest and safe environment for your child. Activities are varied and creative - my daughter has produced some of her best art work at Kathryn's and has had lots of fun in the process! Meals provided are varied and always nutritious, with a variety of fruit of veg included. There is also plenty of opportunity for your little one to socialise as Kathryn looks after children of varying ages from babies to older children after school. This has been so beneficial for my daughter, who was happy to transition into the local pre-school, and will now be starting school this week!

I have no reservations in recommending Kathryn as an excellent childminder.

Kathryn is an excellent child-minder and is extremely professional She has child minded my sons (9 & 5) for a year and has looked after them superbly. Kathryn provides a safe and happy environment at her home, she has helped with homework and offers a great range of fun activities including days out in the school holidays. Kathryn collected my children from school and her communication skills are excellent. The snacks and tasty meals Kathryn provides are very healthy and home cooked. I have been completely at ease and have peace of mind when my boys are with her and they have been very happy. Kathryn loves her job and is extremely responsible, she goes the extra mile to help, I highly recommend her child-minding services.

I had never used a childminder before Kathryn and never would have if a urgent family situation hadn't forced me into it.
I was totally against taking the risk, having seen so many over the years (my oldest is 15), and so rarely seeing one looking after the children in a way I would like once the parents weren't around.
Although Kathryn was recommended to me, I was still dubious as to how my two youngest would be, with my 4 year old who never liked being left and my 2 year old who never been left with anyone outside close family.
To cut a long story short, they had a wonderful time and my youngest cried when he got home because he had wanted to stay the night at Kathryn's!
They talked for days about all the things they had enjoyed, so much so that I now occasionally ask Kathryn to have them before family as they find it such a treat.
It is such a nice feeling knowing there is someone who can have them if necessary and the children feel they are being rewarded rather than palmed off.
Thank you Kathryn

Kathryn has looked after my children on several occasions both in her home and mine (evening babysitting).

I'm so glad I found her. She is extremely reliable and professional and my children love her, she's great with them. What more could you ask for?
