I love teaching and endeavor to pass my passion and my love of learning to my students. I believe that learning is a life-long process and it should be a priority in every family. To this end, I try to install in my students a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge. To get the best out of students, I firmly believe you need a mixture of patience, kindness and laughter in equal measures.

11+ ENTRANCE EXAMS
I recommend that children start preparing when they are in Year 4. The tests are very competitive and the student needs time in order to be fully prepared..
I tutor for 11+ entrance tests and offer tuition in English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. I offer thorough preparation for your child as they approach their entrance examinations. I will ensure that your child is familiar with the format of the examination by using past test papers and thereby reducing uncertainty and putting them in the best possible position to succeed.
Please note that for some grammar schools, entry is not just based on the 11plus examination results but also upon an informal interview and group activities with other candidates.
This is where group tuition proves to be invaluable as I provide activities where students have to work together in order to complete.

MY LESSONS
I prepare bespoke lessons for my students, suited to their individual needs, abilities and learning styles. I endeavour to make my lessons engaging and challenging. One of my primary goals is to develop independent and resilient learners, with the necessary skills and subject knowledge essential for passing exams.

The lessons I prepare for my students will identify any gaps they may have in their Mathematical or English knowledge; stimulate, challenge and engage their minds; and thereby ensure a positive effect on their academic success.

Research has repeatedly demonstrated that students learn better when they are fully engaged and that multisensory, hands-on learning is the best way to engage them. This is how I endeavour to teach in all my lessons.

A typical English lesson will consist of a number of different activities. For example: spelling, punctuation and/or grammar activities, vocabulary-building exercises, phonics/reading and comprehension activities and writing activities.

Similarly, a typical Mathematics lesson will consist of a number of different activities. For example: times tables/number bond practice, revision of previous topic(s), teaching of new topic(s), continuous assessment using appropriate questions (including questions from past papers

I set homework activities for students to complete, in order to consolidate their knowledge and understanding.
Please note that homework is non-negotiable and MUST be completed.

MORE ABOUT ME
I am a patient and enthusiastic teacher. Along with helping children with their learning, I aim to inspire confidence and a ''can do' attitude. I believe this is a big part of being a teacher – if students believe that they can work out that maths problem and have confidence in their abilities, they’ll be much less nervous about the exams.

I have a good reputation in my local area and most of the work I get is through 'word of mouth'. Many of my students are from recommendations from other parents/students.

MY FEES
INDIVIDUAL TUITION (one to one tuition): £60 per hour.
GROUP TUITION: £25 per hour.

Please note that fees are to be paid monthly in advance.

WHY GROUP TUITION?
I offer small group tuition.
The groups will be differentiated according to the student`s ability in order to accelerate their progress
The lessons are scaffolded and, where possible, practical activities incorporated into the lesson.
Group lessons are not as intense as one-to-one lessons (which some students find intimidating) and it is possible to incorporate educational games to introduce a fun element to the lessons.
Average group size is 4-6 students, which allows me to provide exceptional learning support to every student.

BENEFITS OF GROUP TUITION
I keep my groups small so that I can devote adequate time to each student. The groups are arranged by ability so that all students make progress and are not held back.
There are many potential benefits of group work.
For example:
1. Students can tackle more complex problems than they could on their own.
2. Students can pool their knowledge and skills and learn from each other not just the teacher.
3. Students can refine their understanding through discussion and explaination.
4. Students can develop stronger communication skills.
5. Students can develop their own voice and perspectives in relation to their peers.
6. Students can find effective peers to emulate.
