Hi, I am a newly registered childminder in Carluke with spaces available for children 1 year old and up. I am available from August 2022.
I am qualified in childcare and have over 20 years experience working with children in nurseries and as a nanny, which was my previous job.
Childminding is something I've thought about for a long time and, for me, now is the right time to do it.
With children I have cared for in the past, in particular the children I have been a nanny for I have built great relationships with them and their families who I am still in contact with. I like to think of them as my extended family and I’m very lucky to have played a part in supporting their development and watching them grow. I aim to do the same for children I care for in my own home. I want all children to feel that my home is theirs for the time that they are with me.
With childminding, I like the freedom of flexibility the job brings. If it is a lovely sunny day, we can pack up and head out for picnics, visits to local parks, set up in the garden or if it’s not so nice, we can wrap up and splash in puddles. Equally we can spend a nice cosy day at home where we have plenty of resources and I can set up activities the children will enjoy and help support their development.
I live near the centre of Carluke, in a lovely quiet estate with a park nearby and green space for us to use regularly. I live with my Husband and my two sons who are 5 years old and 14 months old.

My Experience
I have 20 years of experience working with children, in both nurseries and as a nanny.
April 2016- July 2022 I was a nanny for 2 families one of which I was with since their first child was 1 year old and he is now 7 years old and has two younger siblings aged 5 years and 3 years old. With my other family I started working with them when the twins were 4 months old and are now 4 years old.
August 2014 -April 2016. I worked as a room supervisor for the 18 months - 3 years children at Grand-Y-Care nursery in Lanark. My duties were to lead a small team, implement the curriculum and relevant documents, plan stimulating and challenging learning experiences which were age and stage appropriate.
April 2011 - July 2014. I started working for the family when the youngest child was 7 months old and the oldest child was 4 years old. Within the position my duties were to take the oldest child to and from school as well as any after school activities. With the youngest child I spent the morning doing activities in the house or going out to the park and meeting her friends before going to nursery in the afternoon. I also did some small household tasks such as ironing,cooking for the children and some day to day cleaning.
I previously worked for the same family in Aberdeen between 2008 and 2009, at the time they only had one child who was 14 months old. I decided to relocate back to Glasgow and not long after me they also moved to Glasgow and asked me to care for their children again.
March 2009 to April 2011 I worked as a room supervisor for the pre 5's at Little Me Nursery in Maryhill. My duties were to oversee the planning and implementing of the curriculum, liase with management, work alongside parents and to provide a happy and stimulating environment for children.
August 2002 to April 2008 I worked at Glasgow University Nursery. I started working here when I first qualified and worked my way up to deputy manager of the nursery. I enjoyed my time here and bonded well with many staff, parents and children but I felt it was time to move on as my position had become more office based than working with children and I missed that.

My Availability
I have various spaces available Monday - Friday, I can do pick up and drop off at Kirkton Primary. If I have space I will consider holiday cover.
My hours will be 8am -6pm

Fiona has cared for my children since birth. She is friendly and open and is fabulous with kids of all age. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend fiona as a childminder, she is excellent at finding new creative ways to learn and play. Her home is perfect with lots to entertain little ones and her garden is a great safe space for kids, to allow lots of outdoor playtime.
