About Me
My name is Phillipa Dowey, I am a registered childminder with Ofsted, and live in Forge wood, Crawley. I have recently been graded OUTSTANDING by Ofsted (July 2022).
I AM CURRENTLY FULL AND HAVE NO SPACES.
I registered as a childminder in 2018 and have looked after babies and children age 0-11 years old. I have 15 years’ teaching experience of children between the ages of 3 and 8.
I live with my husband and 2 children (a boy who is 13 and a girl who is 8). Our home is warm, nurturing and welcoming. I am passionate about providing a happy, exciting, fun and loving learning environment for the children in my care. I follow the Early Years Statutory Framework in the same way a Nursery will. However I am able to give closer attention to each child's learning and needs because of ratio of adult to children. This means I can tailor each child's learning to their specific stage of development. By planning activities that are of personal interest to the children (and help move their learning on), they gain a sense of enjoyment, satisfaction and wonder in their own progress. I believe that children need to feel safe and secure in order to learn and reach their full potential.
The children in my care, have plenty of opportunities to play with other children of various ages, through other childminders that I have networked and become friends with. We spend time during the week having fun, learning and socialising with other children at: a local childminding group, toddler groups, soft play, the woods and the local parks. Other places we make regular outings to are: National trust parks; the library; the woods; Tilgate park; the sensory room; Grattons stream; various parks and play areas; farms; pet shops and the Nature centre. In warmer months we go to the beach! I enjoy following the children's interests and abilities when choosing activities that suit their individual needs, age and development.
When at home we cook, bake, dance, sing, learn, chat, play in my garden, play with our cockerspaniel puppy, get creative in various art and craft activities, messy play activities as well as play with toys and games.
I provide home cooked meals giving parents one less thing to need to worry about in their busy schedules.
My Experience
I taught for 15 years in the UK and South Africa, at private and state schools. I have a lot of experience with early years children (0 to 5 years). As well as older children 11 and under. My extensive experience in teaching means that I have taught hundreds of children with different personalities, abilities, cultures, faiths, and family backgrounds. I have experience supporting children who may need extra help with their development and learning. I have also worked with a range of children with special needs.
I believe that a strong partnership between the parent and myself is needed in order for the child to grow and flourish. This is one aspect I feel I am excellent at, I make every effort to ensure parents feel well supported and communicated with regarding every aspect related to their child. I love having a close yet professional relationship with all the families in my care.

My son Kai started with Phillipa when he was only 10 months old and stayed with her till he was 4 and half. If I could of kept him there for longer I would have, but sadly the time had to come for him to start school. I wouldn’t know where to start with the amazing job Phillipa has done not just with Kai but with all the children she has had in her care.
She is a kind, loving, friendly, and warm person inside and out. She is extremely patient with all the children she looks after and encourages them to try new things as well teaches them all about the world around them by going on nature walks and to the beach.
One of the reasons I chose a childminder is because Kai is a very active little boy and needed to be out and about. Every day Phillipa would take them to baby groups, the beach, National Trusts, play parks and even when it was raining she would set up activities at the house, whether it be painting, baking or messy play. She was always happy to do the messy bits that is parents dread doing at home.
She would celebrate all the special occasions such as Christmas, birthdays, new year, Easter, Autumn, firework night and new year. She would also teach them about other celebrations such as Chinese New Year!
Kai always ate so well and healthy and was given a variety of different foods to try.
Phillipa is amazing at keeping parents up to date with what’s app photos and messages about how your children are doing throughout the day! It is sooo lovely seeing all the lovely photos and activities they where up to that day.
She keeps you informed about how your child is progressing through Tapersty as well as their own written journal. She is brilliant at keeping these up to date too!
Phillipa also gives you the time to talk at pick up and tells you about what they have been up to and offers an abundance of support if she feels there is a concern and what we can do together to help your child move forward.
Her children are also so supportive with the children she looks after. My son and hers became extremely close as well as all the children had such strong bonds as they all started at a similar time and finished at the same time. We still meet up with each other now!
Phillipa is the best childminder out there and I will absolutely be sending my daughter to her next year, even if I am not in the area as there is no other childminder I would want her to go to. Thank you so much Phillipa for all you have done for Kai as well as us as a family… we truely grateful!

My daughter Isla (smiler!) has been with Phillipa for 2.5 years since she was 10 months old and I honestly couldn’t have imagined anyone else looking after her in this time.
Isla was so very happy and settled in Phillipa’s care straight away. She was genuinely excited to see her each morning, she adored the other children who all got on amazingly, she had tons of fun and couldn’t wait to tell me what she has been doing that day.
Phillipa was always thinking and introducing new things to do and experience and taking the children on regular adventures. She kept us updated throughout the day sending regular pictures and videos of what they’re up to, what activities have been planned, what Isla learned that day, funny/cute things that happened and I because of this I felt like I was a constant part of Isla’s experiences and could talk to her about it afterwards.
I believe that with the help of Phillipa, Isla’s development progressed extremely well and she was learning something new all the time.
Having the developmental reviews and ‘next steps’ really helped me, as a first time parent, understand the natural next steps in Islas development and how I could continue to help her progress at home.
As much as Isla is a well behaved child, I trusted Phillipa to help promote what is right and wrong, boundaries, manners and to always be kind to others. Phillipa was always supportive and I felt I could and still can ask her opinion on anything.
Isla is starting a new nursery in September which I feel is the natural progressive next step for her now her older friends are starting school. Phillipa has been very supportive and especially with Isla, encouraging her to be brave about the changes to come.
We are all very sad their time has come to an end (this isn’t goodbye) and I couldn’t recommend Phillipa enough to any parent who is looking for a caring and nurturing setting for their child.

Samantha, the pleasure is all mine. I will never forget Isla smiler, her gorgeousness, zest for life and all over happiness has been infectious to everyone else. I cant believe my time with her is over. She will be missed dearly! Thank you for all your support and encouragement along the way.xx
Phillipa is an excellent childminder.
She is very experienced, dedicated, punctual, flexible and keep me informed all the time.
I can highly recommend Phillipa if you are looking for a childminder who is passionate about children.
