About Me

Hello! My name is Megan and I have recently moved back to Pembrokeshire. I have completed my undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies at the University of Plymouth, achieving a First Class Honours. I have also just completed a masters programme in MA Environmental Humanities (with education) this September, achieving a Distinction. I would describe myself as responsible, positive, caring and above anything a very happy, enthusiastic person! I have worked with children from birth to 17 years of age. Being able to watch children explore the world around them, using their imagination and creativity to begin to understand new experiences is what inspires me to work with children!

My Experience

I have ample experience in babysitting and private nannying for numerous different families, I am thoroughly aware of the roles and responsibilities expected of a childcare provider. Outside of my term-time academic studies, I have been employed long-term as a holiday nanny for numerous families during which I have taken on sole care of children ageing from birth to late childhood. This role involved me planning the daily itineraries while balancing essential duties including laundry, preparing meals, homework aid and ensuring cleanliness of children's rooms. Taking on sole charge of sibling groups has allowed me to support a range of developmental milestones and thus, adapt routines to suit the needs of all family members. In applying my theoretical knowledge of childhood development, I facilitate educational activities and interventions which target specific areas of learning and development agains't educational curriculums. I have a passion for arts and crafts and I will find a way to incorporate chalk, crayons and paint into any activity!! Being situated in the Pembrokeshire countryside and having a full driving license has allowed me to plan and facilitate engaging outdoor experiences for the children in my care to ensure each day is an exciting adventure! Alongside my academic studies, I have been a regular babysitter for additional families whenever required. These roles bring me complete joy and truly highlight the brilliant world of childhood!

I have recently finished a 6-month long weekly role as a support volunteer for a bereavement charity in Plymouth working with children, young people, and families. During weekly sessions, I was based in the children's group and support the participants (typically aged 5-11) in their discussions of difficult feelings, emotions and behaviours relating to their personal challenges of loosing a family member; acting as a friend, guider, and listener. This role requires an approachable, child-friendly charisma while also necessitating a professional and serious manner to reflect the sensitive challenges being explored. Working in partnership with parents, carers and wider family units is a fundamental element of my practice!

During my undergraduate degree, I undertook a 6-month long weekly role as a student teacher and classroom assistant within an Early Years (reception) classroom and in an independent private nursery. I worked as a 1:1 support for reading, numeracy and phonics to help to identify specific areas of learning and developing and continuing to support the attainment of these key skills, developing a thorough knowledge of and competency with the Early Years Foundation Stage.

I have also held both a volunteer and employed role as an Activity Support Worker for children with ALN/disabilities. This provided me with a great understanding of working with children and young people with disabilities and how to best support their individual needs, along with practical skills of planning and running activities.

Megan came to babysit for me and my partner. Beforehand we had a meet and greet and it just couldn't have gone any better. Very kind, caring, gentle and very easy to get on with. Absolutely wonderful with children they loved her. Very happy to have met Megan and I felt very much at ease going out and leaving Megan with my children. Very reliable and extremely trustworthy. Would definately recommend 😁
