I provide 1 to 1 tuition online through zoom. This involves pupils learning through an interactive whiteboard, worksheets and past papers which I provide online as well as learning games that I can share from my computer. I have found online tuition to be very successful and accessible for pupils from year 2 upwards.
I successfully tutor a range of levels and adapt my approach according to the age, and needs of the pupil. Whatever your needs are, I provide a tailored approach to provide challenge and enable a child to progress.
I have helped a large number of pupils to pass their eleven-plus entrance exams for a range of schools. I have taught both the CEM and GL style questions for eleven plus. Therefore, I am familiar with both assessment types.
I offer professional tuition using a really patient, calm and caring approach. I will always do my best to ensure that a child understands a concept and will work hard to give them the best chance at making good progress. I feel a real strength of mine is being able to build a great working rapport with pupils and parents. Another strength is my ability to promote a confidence increase in mathematics and help pupils to make quick progress in this area.
Lessons available are 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
I have a current DBS and am registered with the DBS update service. This can be viewed by you on request.
My Experience
I am an experienced primary school tutor who has class teaching experience with all year groups from nursery to year 6. I have particularly strong experience teaching lower key stage two (years 3 and 4).
I tutor children for a variety of reasons such as to boost confidence, bridge gaps in learning, prepare for 11+/school tests and also to help academically gifted children to excel further.
I am an experienced marker of the KS2 reading test, therefore have a strong understanding of the requirements for reading at this level.
My Qualifications
PGCE Primary Education with QTS from Cumbria University
BA Honours Degree in Criminology with Psychology from Northampton University
A Levels in Psychology, Law and Business Studies

Phil has been tutoring my son (8 years, Y4) in Maths since just after lockdown. Despite the sessions taking place at 7.45am before school, Leo is always really excited and enthusiastic and this is down to Phil's engaging and patient approach. Leo's confidence with Maths has grown immensely and he never complains about having to log on. Phil gives great feedback and has always been really helpful with any maths related queries I've had outside of lesson time. I would highly recommend him.

Katie was apprehensive at first having an online tutor lesson, as this is something she had never done before. However, being tutored by Phil has made such a positive difference and helped build Katies confidence & knowledge and she is now enjoying maths and it has shown in her school work.
She felt relaxed and really enjoys the lessons!

We contacted Phil earlier this year. We were struggling with our 6 year old. We were both sceptical whether this method would benefit our child. We originally agreed to try it for 6 weeks.
We are 8 months on now and the improvement is astonishing. Without realising Phil had constructed a programme for Oliver and the results are plain to see. We are over the moon with the improvement and hope it continues. I can't recommend Phil enough. We are definitely booking him for our little girl when the time is right. Genuinely can't believe the difference despite no school for over 6 months. Phil you are a superstar and both Louise and I can't thank you enough.

My son started tutoring sessions during lockdown to support home learning. Phil was very open to discussing options prior to starting and instantly built up good rapport with our 8-year old. Despite the challenges of tutoring over Zoom, Phil is able to keep the sessions engaging and makes the sessions fun. My son really looks forward to his weekly lesson and his confidence has grown over the past 6 months. We alternate between English and Maths each half term and the extra sessions have definitely helped reinforce some key Y4 concepts as well as starting to get a head start on Y5 too! We would highly recommmed Phil!

Phil has started tutoring English for my son during the first lockdown as I was working and couldn't give the attention he needs. Since the tuition started my son developed confidence in English and has improved in various other ways. He looks forward to the tuition and we continued working the tuition as he gets that extra help. Would definitely recommend Phil .
