I have been an Ofsted registerd childminder for 20+ years.
II live in Low Fell and am still living at home with my mam, my older brother and younger sister. I work alongside my mam who is also an Ofsted registered childminder with over 30 years experience and has been a foster carer for the past 14 years.
We use all of the ground floor for our childminding and our front room is done out as our main playroom. We also have some rooms upstairs registered. Most of the toys are easily accessible to the children, although craft items are kept out of the way of the smaller children.
Our house is a non smoking premises, we do have 2 cats and 2 dogs but they are all people friendly and we have owned them since they were little so they have all grown up alongside the children.
I have worked as a childminder for over 20 years and have looked after children from 10 weeks old up to 15 years old. I also have a lot of experience looking after children who have special needs and varying disabilities.
I have looked after children with cerebal palsy, downs syndrome, dyslexia, dyspraxia, deafness, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, visual impairments. I have also recently looked after a baby who was on oxygen all the time.
I also spend a lot of time helping my mam out with the foster children and my younger sister who is 9 years old and has special needs.
I also help run our local Rainbow Brownie group which I have been involved with since 1992 and includes children age 5 - 7 years.
We provide a variety of activities at our home including arts and crafts, baking, small world play, role play, construction toys. Outside we have sand and water play, a large wooden wendy house which the children currently have done out as a cafe n shop, a variety of sit and ride toys and scooters.
We spend a lot of time playing outside in the summer (weather permitting ) and also enjoy outings to local parks, farms, activity centres, museums, and various other places of fun and interest.
I also have public liability insurance and am a member of Pacey (formerley known as NCMA)
I am also in the process of learning British sign language level 1.
