About Me

Blossom Day Care is an Ofsted and Brighton & Hove Family Service registered, home- based childcare provision in Kemptown, Brighton. We are a mother and daughter team, consisting of myself, Emily, and my eldest daughter Ella.
Our ethos is founded on valuing and celebrating the diversity of each child and family that we work with. We offer a wide range of toys, activities and resources that challenge and stimulate. Equality and diversity are very important to us, and inclusion is at the core of our care philosophy. We aim to ensure that the children are able to develop positive attitudes about themselves and others.
Our home is welcoming, bright and loving. It is just a 5 minute walk from Queens Park and Brighton beach. We promote a holistic and fun approach to learning and development, providing opportunities for each child to be creative, inquisitive and confident.
Working in partnership with parents, we provide a high standard of safety and care. Our level of professionalism enables parents to feel confident that all their child’s needs are understood and met.
We focus on each child’s learning through play and exploration, (both indoors and outdoors), storytelling, painting, doing science experiments, dressing up/putting on plays, singing and dancing. Each day we go on a local outing. These trips include visits to parks, the library, and toddler/music groups. We also go on nature walks and visit the beach. We regularly go on special visits, for example, to a farm or to the aquarium.
These activities allow each child to flourish in the EYFS 7 Areas of Learning.
We are sensitive to our environment, using eco-friendly cleaning products and providing ‘low-plastic’ equipment and toys.
Our after school provision is well equipped and fun. We offer fresh and nutritious home cooked meal options and have experience of providing for those with allergies.

My Experience

Ella and I have both worked with babies and children for many fulfilling years and in a variety of professional roles.
As a young mother I worked as a Childminder, Classroom Assistant and Foster Carer. I then returned to education as a mature student and gained a degree in Social Science and a teaching qualification.

Ella has been a Nanny for 17 years. She is a Level 3 Early Years Nursery Nurse and she recently graduated with an Art History degree.
My youngest daughter Grace is also a qualified Nursery Nurse and works in a local nursery.
We have all had enhanced CRB checks, Safeguarding training and Paediatric First Aid training. We continually review and update our training.
We have experience of caring for twins and children with disabilities, Special Education Needs (SEN) and allergies. We have worked with children and families from a variety of religions, cultures, beliefs and parenting practices.
We have experience of using Makaton, which is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.
