About Me

I am an experienced nanny, looking for a full time live out role, starting at the beginning January 2020.

In 2018 I completed my degree studying Early Childhood studies (BA) at the University of Roehampton.

A very hardworking, motivated and responsible individual, who strives to do every given task to the best of my ability.

My Experience

Nanny (September 2018 - current)
Last September I began working for a family whose youngest child was 6 months old when I joined them, along with their older child who was 2 and a half years old. During my time with them I have been responsible for taking the older child to and from preschool, finding stimulating activities for the youngest child to attend during the day such as; playgroups, outdoor activities, music and sensory classes. As the sole carer during the day, I am responsible for making filling and nutritious lunches for the children, sometimes I also make them dinner if the parents need me last minute. Whilst the child sleeps during the day I am required to make sure the childrens toys are kept tidy and to complete light household duties too. I have also stayed overnight with the children, with sole responsibility.

Nanny (November 2017 – July 2018)
In November 2017, I started working for a family with 3 children: 10-year-old girl, 8 and 6-year-old boys. This role could be considered 50/50 sole charge and mother’s help. It was a very busy household that required me to work from my own initiative most of the time to enable efficient team work between the mother and myself. My role predominantly focussed on collecting the boys from school, cooking nutritional evening meals and providing transport to and from extra-curricular activities. Alongside my duties with the children, I am required to provide basic household cleaning and laundry upon each visit. It is very important to me that I respect the way the household is run by the family and that I excel in putting 100% effort into making the lives of this family easier.

Nanny (September 2016 – November 2017)
I worked for a family with 3 children: 15 and 12-year-old girls and a 10-year-old boy. Again, this role can be considered 50/50 sole charge and family help. The main emphasis of this role was the 10-year-old boy; this included collection from school and aiding with homework to ensure assigned pieces were completed to the best of his ability.

SEN Playworker (August 2018: 2 weeks, August 2017: 3 weeks & August 2016: 3 weeks)
The Oaks Play Scheme
My role involved me working alongside a semi-structured team of playworkers to provide summer day care for children with special needs. The needs of the children varied massively including children with autism, cerebral palsy and down syndrome. Due to the varying needs and demands of the children attending the summer scheme, it was essential that I worked exceptionally alongside the other members of staff as well as working off my initiative. There is no set structure to the day to day activities and the play was predominantly child led. However, due to the unpredictability of the day, many children required 1:1 encouragement and engagement from myself and other members of staff to ensure each child got the most out of the scheme. My role largely focussed on children with a higher level of mobility, however, I received basis training in manual handling using a hoist.

Teaching Assistant (May 2016 – July 2016)
Petersfield Infant School
I thoroughly enjoyed the work experience I have gained through working as a teaching assistant and I feel that I have gained skills that are transferrable to all other aspects of my current work. This role involved me working alongside the main teacher and aiding her wherever needed within the classroom. Whilst assisting the children with their academic needs, it was also important I provided an approachable and comforting presence within the classroom. I relished in gaining experience in the different environments and broadening the different type people and children I regularly interacted with.

Special Needs 1:1 Teaching Assistant (September 2013- 2015)
Petersfield Infant School
2013 – 2014: During my first year, I worked 1:1 with a boy aged 5 who was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The boy was Russian which meant that begin with there was a severe language barrier. This involved direct contact with the parents; however, due to the language barrier and home difficulties this was a challenging aspect to my time here. To overcome this challenge, I worked directly with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to gain knowledge and experience on how to address the situation. My role included providing different activities to support his learning and development.

2014-2015: I worked 1:1 with a 6-year-old girl with down syndrome. This was a similar role to that discussed previously. However, this was more focussed within the classroom (including reading and writing) rather than providing alternative activities.

Within both roles, it was imperative that I consistently showed patience and empathy towards all members of the family to ensure the best outcome for the child.

Throughout these 2 years, I additionally worked with children with difficult home and family situations and I supported them through the changes that come with going into care. My goal was to aid with a smooth transition whilst maintaining the psychological welfare and academic ability of the children.

Nanny (September 2013 – 2015)
This role was sole charge of two children: 2-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl. Due to the developmental differences that come with such an age gap, I was required to show flexibility in my time with the children and adapt all of the activities accordingly. Through spending so much time with the children, I was expected (by the parents) to uphold their expectations for discipline and act accordingly. As the younger boy was not at school yet, I spent all day with him providing a stimulating environment. This included selecting and taking him to toddler classes specialising in young child development. At the end of the day, I was required to collect the girl from school and later provide a balanced and healthy evening meal for both children. My role with the children further included transporting them to and from swimming classes. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an active family and watching the children grow up.

Lunchtime Supervisor (September 2013 – August 2015)
Petersfield Infant School
My role as a lunchtime supervisor included the responsibility of 30 children assisting them with their meals and engaging all children in exercise and play.
