About Me

Hello,
My name is Erin, I am a primary school teacher in Hertfordshire and I am currently available for in person and online tutoring roles.

As a Primary school teacher and Mental Health lead, I have a vast experience teaching children across the Early years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I have plenty of experience adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils with SEND and I have a variety of tutoring experience ranging from phonics intervention, KS1 and KS2 SATs prep and 11+ examination prep.
My teaching ethos focuses on supporting pupils to develop a love of learning through support and challenge that allows them to thrive. Therefore, each session is planned with the individual child in mind. Prior to a tutoring session I prepare engaging lessons that focus on pupil's individual needs and next steps to ensure they make great progress.

A bit about myself as an individual

I am married with 2 children aged 7 and 1 year. My passion for childcare began from a young age, I am the eldest of four children and always sought to help care for them, and other family members children. As I got older I began to work with children more formally, teaching dance and movement as well as using my qualifications to work in a day nursery and then becoming a sole charge nanny for several families. I have years experience tutoring children of all ages and I am currently working as a primary school teacher.

I am an outgoing person who likes to be outdoors and has a holistic lifestyle. I believe myself to be calm, caring and empathetic, and in my spare time I enjoy yoga, running, reading and knitting. As well as spending lots of time with my family; being outdoors or doing something crafty!
I am a confident and patient individual who deals well under pressure and in intense busy environments. I have a laid back attitude and feel that I easily "slot into" others family life. As a teacher and childcare provider I take a firm but fair approach as I feel it is important for the children to feel safe and secure within their boundaries and that I have an important role to play in the modelling of interactions with others and the use of manners.

As a parent myself I understand the difficulty in choosing someone to care and support your children and I take the responsibility of being that someone very seriously. I ensure that the children are the focus when I am with them and I also like to make sure I am always available to discuss with parents and carers about the child's day, their development, what the parent/carer would like from me as their childcare provider and anything else in between!

Please feel free to contact me with further questions.
I hope to hear from you, thank you for your time.

My Experience

I have vast range of experience in childcare, schooling, forest schooling and tutoring. I am currently teaching in a primary school, however, I began by babysitting for family and friends. Then, once I had completed my BTEC Level 3 qualification I worked in a Day Nursery where I was the Pre-School Room leader, I then went on to be a sole charge nanny for 2 boys aged 2 and 3. This position ended once I had my son. When my son was 5 months old he came to work with me helping to set up another day nursery for a company. Here I created a safe and engaging learning environment for children aged 0-5. Once the nursery was up and running efficiently I left to be a sole charge Nanny to 3 boys aged between 5-11. Then is September 2014 I began my BEd in Primary Education, as part of my degree course I completed placements within mainstream and SEND primary schools where I was responsible for teaching the National Curriculum and P levels. Whilst completing my degree I was also a sole charge Nanny for a family with a boy aged 9 and a girl aged 4, as well as caring for another family (children aged 1 and 4).
Alongside these roles I also ran dance, movement and yoga classes for children aged 6 months to 5 years. Intermittently, I have also been a sole charge nanny for a family with 2 young boys caring for them over several periods of time since they were both 5 months old.
Alongside my studies I also tutored pupils aged 4-18 privately and mentor students within my university.
My experience so far has encompassed children of all ages both in an educational and caring capacity . Thought to an extent I feel that these are always combined. I am confident with large groups of children and also negotiating households with several children of all ages both at home and on outings. All my roles so far have required me to use my knowledge of the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage to create engaging and worthwhile learning activities within the classroom and home.
In my previous roles I have engaged the children in a variety of ways: Taking them to clubs, play dates and groups to socialise, playing games, singing, dancing and yoga, going on adventures in the woods/park/fields to explore, swimming to develop their confidence and skill, completing a wide variety of craft and cooking activities catered to their individual level, helping children with homework and their reading - as well as reading for pleasure! I am happy to cater for all ages and genders as well as taking a Montessori approach and following the families way of life.
