About Me

Hi I am 58 year old married mum of 2 girls, 28 and 22 years old. My 22 year old has health needs and has a nasal gastric tube and other health conditions which require Hospital appointments and admissions. I was working as a clinical support worker in the A+E department at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young people but found shifts difficult to manage with other commitments, so would rather work in my own home so easier if My daughter needs me or I need to take her to a Hospital appointment. I enjoy baking, arts and crafts, going walks especially pushing babies in my silvercross coachbuilt pram. I also help teach highland dancing with children from age 3 - adults. I took voluntary redundancy from my job due to the imalgamation of two services in 2016. I had worked night shift for nearly 20 years with children 5 -16 years old with additional support needs and felt I needed a change. I love working with all ages of children but do love working with babies, when I first qualified I worked as a nursery nurse in the maternity unit. I also have a interest in working with under 5's who have additional support needs as I know from friends who have struggled to get experienced help with their children and family members arent always able to cope or offer.

My Experience

I am a qualified nursery nurse and also have my SVQ3 in children and young people, since qualified I have worked in the maternity hospital with new born babies, I also worked in a childrens centre with under 5's. My last job was working in a respite unit for children with additional support needs with children from 5 - 16 yrs. The needs of the children ranged from mild to complex needs. I am epilepsy trained, moving and handling trained, also gastrostomy and nasal gastric feeding, and basic signlanguage, I also started my training on Cathertisation which I am looking into finishing, I have also done a baby and child First Aid Course and due to update it through the Councils training courses. . I also look after a family and friends children. I am the emergency contact gor my friends wee girls who are 3 and 5 as they have health need and need hospital admissions so I take care of the other child. I have looked after them since they were born. I also help look after friends daughter who is 12 and has Downs Syndrome. I spent 5.5 months in the RHCYP which I really enjoyed and gained a lot of experience. I also teach dancing at my friends dance school with children from 3 - adults.
