Hello, my name is Maxine, I am a mature nanny with over 30 years of experience working with professional families and providing quality care for children aged 6 months to 18 years of age. I have two children of my own that both attend school: one at sixth form and one at secondary school. Pursuing a career in working with children has always been the centre of my focus and my main employment. I am loyal and easily adaptable to new environments and families so I can provide the needed care and stability for children. Working alongside parents and creating new bonds is also very important to me, of which trust, and discretion is important for the job and myself.
My Experience
I first entered childcare as a living in Nanny at the age of 17, which kickstarted my career path in caring for children - which I enjoyed very much. Over the years I’ve spent much time with different families and their environments, which has enabled me to gain a wealth of experience in caring for children. While I may lack recent degrees and qualifications, I have been employed my whole life (in childcare) and have gained a good reputation along with excellent references. Over the last 28 years I’ve worked for two professional families in Cambridge: one for 14 years and the other for 13 years. Recently, I’ve been working for another family for 4 years which is coming to an end in July 2021. In all cases, as the children have grown up, I have adapted to the family’s needs and have been flexible, ensuring that the level of care is of high standard.
My sole responsibility is for the safety and wellbeing of the children while they are in my care. Working alongside parents and maintaining good communication is paramount. Over the years my responsibility has ranged:
- Collecting children in the afternoon and then taking them onto after school activities
- Reading to and with the children
- Attending any medical appointments or social events with the children
- Supervising the children’s bath time
- Providing personal guidance for the children
- Preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children
- Planning and organising age-related activities with the children, taking them on day outings
- Tidying up children’s bedrooms and play areas
- Housekeeping duties for the children e.g., washing and ironing
