About Me

I am a previously Ofsted Registered Nanny (I didn't renew when I had my second child as it was the middle of the pandemic and I was not working) I am based in the Dovecot/Roby area but willing to travel across Merseyside.

I believe it is so very important for all children to feel safe and loved wherever they may be, under whichever childcare and I believe this can achieved by listening to them and their families, engaging them in different activities, providing them with opportunities to learn and grow in several different aspects and generally providing a welcoming, fun and relaxed environment.

I have lived in Liverpool for 16 years where in the past I have been the Children's and Youth Worker for my churches, St Bridgets' and St Thomas' and Wavertree Christian Fellowship as well as running many outreach activities for the children and Young People in the area including Drama and Arts & Crafts.

I have been working for the past 11 years as a Nanny for a number of families with kids ranging from 9 months -10 years. Prior to that I often worked as a babysitter and Mother's Help as a teenager and have looked after various children in many different capacities- doing activities, feeding, take out on trips, school and nursery runs, homework, bathing and bedtime and much more.

I really enjoy the fun and laughter than is had when looking after and working with children as well as being involved in their development. I enjoy swimming and creative activities myself and am aware and keep up-to-date with opportunities and events in the surrounding areas for both myself and children that I know and work with.

My husband and I run a summer camp for Young People aged 12-17 as well as some Youth and Children's sessions. I also work occasionally for different theatre companies who are focused on engaging Young People.

For the past 5 years my husband and I have been volunteering with Safe Families for Children as a 'Host Family' and 'Family Friends' working with children who are at high risk of going into foster care for a number of different reasons- it our capacity we look after children some weekends and during the holidays and work with their parents to enable them to make positive changes for their family and home lives. We love doing this!

I voluntarily run a toddler group on a Monday afternoon; setting up, engaging with and registering families as well as delivering weekly story and song times for the children which we all enjoy! As well as this I work casually delivering theatre and Drama workshops with Theatre Porto on an ad hoc basis.

I have my own 2 year old girl and 4 1/2 year old boy and am really enjoying being a Mum to my own little ones. In the past I have generally had them with me when I work apart from in the school holidays when my husband is off-this has worked well so far in two circumstances (alongside both a 1.5year old and separately for a family with 3 children aged 3-8years). My son is now in full time school in Roby and therefore it would just be my daughter with me- she is a very adaptable, flexible and sociable child. Both families that I have taken my children along to have said it has been good for their own children and I feel it is very good for mine too!

I have spent time working in nurseries and children's centers in both Surrey and Liverpool including St Dunstan's Nursery (Cheam, Surrey) All Hallow's Pre-School (Allerton, Liverpool), Wavertree Christian Fellowship Nursery.

I was Ofsted Registered for 9 years but I didn't renew it this past year as I was on maternity leave and therefore did not need it, I have a full clean UK drivers license as well as having a current DBS disclosure (and am on the updating service), and have completed a First Aid and Emergency Course (Paediatric). If a family were needed me to become Ofsted Registered again this is something I would be happy to look into together- as I have been in the past it shouldn't be too difficult.

My Experience

I have plenty of experience working with children and young people which has stemmed over the past 16 years; and now even more so an a Mum.

When I was 14 I took a 13 week course in Babysitting and Childcare in Epsom, Surrey- from then I started regularly babysitting (at least once a week) for 3 families with children ranging from 6 months - 10 years.

Once I turned 16 I worked for two years as a Live-Out Nanny for a family with 3 children aged 1,6 and 8; this involved collecting them from school, collecting and dropping at activities, preparing and serving evening meals, preparing lunch boxes, changing nappies of the youngest child, bathing the children, doing homework with them and putting them to bed.
It also sometimes involved overnight stays and morning routines as well as extra full days in the holidays. The family would also sometimes employ me for their children's parties to run games and activities with the children.

On moving to Liverpool I have since regularly (at least twice a week) looked after children of ages 2 months- 18 years.

This has been of a wide variety of parents and families; for many families from my Church as well as from local toddler groups and with Safe Families.

Overnight experience includes children of ages 4 months- 13 years wherein I have stayed in the families home for 1 -5 days: attending local toddler groups/library groups, changing young children, collecting children from nursery/school, feeding the children, playing, doing homework with them, bathing them and putting them to bed, doing light housework, preparing lunch boxes and then in the morning waking them, getting ready for school and taking them to nursery/school.

I think it is very important to engage children in play, games and activity, spending time with them to build relationship and trust. When looking after children I make this one of my main goals- I also think it is important to spend one-on-one time with children where it is possible in order to give them attention and care and a time to talk with you.

I regularly take my own children , the children I look after and those of my friends out on trips to the Arts Galleries and Museums in Liverpool City Centre- finding times when there are interactive things going on. I also like to take children of all ages to the park, library and occasionally to the cinema or bowling. When these things are open and available in the current pandemic situation!

As well as activities outside the home I love to initiate things with the home including arts and crafts, board games, theatre activities and games such as hide and seek/ music bumps etc. I think interaction is key to development and learning as well as having fun!
