I would describe myself as an energetic, enthusiastic and fun individual with very high moral standards and a passion for life. My naturally empathetic and caring nature would be ideal for any family who seek a nanny who is going to put their children's best interests first and to inculcate the importance of cultivating kindness, respect for others, educational interests and self confidence within them. I have recently moved to Kent from London where I’d been living for 7 years as an early years teacher and then nanny to enjoy a more relaxed country way of life.
At the heart of why I am applying for the position of Nanny is my sheer passion, dedication and enthusiasm for working alongside children and their families and to give my full support in order to help each child to enjoy their early childhood experiences and to give parents full peace of mind.
Every child is precious and it is important for them to feel safe, loved and valued so that they can grow in confidence and develop positive personal attributes which will help them to succeed in all aspects of their life.
It is my ambition to nurture children in all areas of their development so that they are solid and equipped with the right skills to mature into successful young people with a passion for life and set a high standard for being an excellent role model.
My past experiences in supporting vulnerable children, children with special educational needs and their families has enabled me to understand the importance of incorporating child initiated learning through playful activities with well established boundaries. Such practice has helped me to build strong and
caring relationships with children, ensuring that communication maintains open and positive.
Having this approach has also helped me to identify and address with empathy any concerns or insecurities that a child may have which in turn will help them in developing healthy self esteem and emotional intelligence.
Throughout my employment history, positive teamwork and working well alongside families and professionals has been one of my strengths.
In my previous position as Nursery nurse, I took pride in my communication skills between myself, the teacher and other teaching staff to ensure that we all had the best interests of the children at
heart and that each person was clear about the daily activity schedule at the morning briefing.
Being highly organised also enabled me to successfully manage my areas of duties and responsibilities by prioritizing the children's daily routine, keeping important appointments with any other medical or professional body and informing parents of the child's full day.
It was also my responsibility to tailor and deliver the children's play and learning to best suit their needs
so that could successfully understand whilst still be challenged.
During activities I would assess each child's level of understanding, asking open questions regarding
what they already know about the topic. This helped me to get a good idea in the areas that they already
had a solid understanding in and those which required further practice. In addition to this I also enjoyed
using a variety of toys, props and puppets, making play dough, word games, going out on local trips
to ensure that children's development came through fun and inspiring adventures.
My postgraduate course in early childhood studies gave me the opportunity to learn about and implement both the Early Years and Key Stage 1 National curriculums with confidence and my Psychology degree has also enabled me to research and apply theories that underpin the stages of child development, behaviour and attachment. One of my greatest achievements was being invited to attend a training course at the Anna Freud Centre, which is known as one of the World's leading establishments in child psychotherapy and development.
I have been able to put the training into practice especially when faced with children's challenging behaviour, and sleep and toilet training.
My expectations for children's behaviour is high and I understand that rewards for positive behaviour are a successful tool in supporting a child to make good choices.
In my previous role as an early years play practitioner I was able to provide support for children between 0-5 years old with learning and play,
but also worked in partnership with schools, professionals, parents and carers to provide practical advice and guidance about what other services were available which could best support their child's needs.
For example, with parental agreement I often referred children into services such as Child and Adolescent Metal Health Services for severe behaviour, attachment and mental health, as well as another organisation called Continuum Care for children who had a life limiting illness.
Before leaving the centre I was working 1:1 with three families, two of which both had a child diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder who would often display challenging behaviour and one child with a social and communication delay.
In addition I gained valuable experience in organising and managing a daily crèche for the infants who’s parents were enrolled in courses and workshops at the centre.
I believe that both my passion and experience that I have in working along side and supporting children and their families could be of benefit for any family looking for a caring, friendly and approachable nanny with excellent moral standards.
