About Me

I am a nurturing person who loves spending time with young children - supporting them to enjoy their achievements, have lots of fun experiencing the world around them, encouraging communication as well as implementing any routines as guided by the parents. Safety, fun, and positive reinforcement is at the forefront of how I work. I appreciate that every child is unique and have an individualised, creative approach to childcare. I am relationship focussed and commit and invest in families to achieve positive outomes for children in supporting their development. For children with additional needs, delays, autism, ADHD etc I can support with creating a specialised plan. I have worked with children with physical disabilities and complex health needs also, including those with mobility issues, wheelchair users and PEG feeds. I know basic Makaton.

My Experience

I have extensive experience with children, having worked as a Practice Team Leader with children with learning and physical disabilities for several years, working directly with children as well as supervising staff ensuring the highest standards of care were met and that basic, social, emotional and developmental needs were identified and worked towards. I set up a new residential unit for children with autism, led on participation of children, and led a short break service for children and families to have respite in the community. I devised and ran programmes of activities both in house and in the community. I worked hard with my team to create a warm home from home environment for the children.

I have also worked for 4 years as a Senior Project Worker for Young Carers aged 5 - 18, managing a small team of project workers, volunteers and sessional workers. My role involved devising packages of support and respite from caring duties, running fun activities and meaningful workshops, mentoring, training staff, recruitment of safe and best practitioners, leading on participation, safeguarding and working directly with complex and vulnerable families (domestic violence, drug and alcohol additiction, abuse and neglect, exploitation, learning and physical disabilities, illness and life limiting conditions). My role required me to liaise and present to the multi-professional team, write reports for council meetings and Child Protection conferences etc. My strengths were in spearheading children's participation in service delivery, and being adaptable and creative in reaching children - finding the most effective ways to build relationships based on trust and stability.

I have experience of sole sole charge care of children as a professional nanny - for over a year for three children aged 2 - 9.
The children were able to bond with me very quickly as I made sure I provided a playful and nurturing environment, and they thrived on my attention and involvement in group activities/games but also with 1:1 time. I incorporate many different approaches in to how I work with children; I feel children benefit from lots of time playing in nature, expression through art, and I also find in the moment planning very effective - building on children's own interests and natural curiosity.

My extensive experience working and communicating with a range of different children with very differing needs has further enhanced my childcare skills. Please contact me and ask for my CV if you are interested.
