About Me

I am 20 years old and I have finished my Level 2 Apprenticeship in Early Years Childcare and I am now at the end of my level 3. My Level 2 and 3 is in a childminding setting which I have really enjoyed and would like to carry on working in this type of environment. My current boss through my apprenticeship has just had a baby so I am learning how to look after a new born as-well.
I am a hardworking, reliable, compassionate person and I have recently passed my driving so I am waiting for a-bit more time to become more confident before driving with children in my car.
In my free time I enjoy swimming, going the the gym, walking my dog and socialising with family and friends.

My Experience

Over the past few years I have helped my cousin with a young boy with profound learning disabilities through the direct payment scheme, this involves helping him to integrate into everyday life, supporting him to access activities such as swimming, horse riding, soft play, assisting him with basic care needs and dealing with behaviours he has which are challenging.

In 2015-2016 I took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, where you could choose to undertake a variety of activities relating to voluntary work, physical activity and learning a new skill. For volunteering, I chose to help out at Beavers where the children were from 6 to 8 years old. This involved me assisting with activities and ensuring the welfare and safety of the members. My physical activity was to learn how to play badminton. I learnt the rules of the game and refined my skills to become a proficient player. For my new skill, I learnt how to cook a variety of different types of foods.

In 2018, I took part in the National Citizen Service (NCS). This required me to take part in a 4-week phased programme designed to provide all sorts of new experiences. There are 4 different sections to this programme; the first week was meeting people and team building. We travelled away from home to do things like rock climbing and a range of outdoor activities. The second week I spent at Bedford University learning to become more independent by shopping for food, cooking and cleaning. In the day we attended lessons focusing on life skills and becoming independent citizens. We all worked as a team to organise a fashion show, preparing the props and costumes. The week culminated in the participants organising two fundraising events for the charity of our choice. The whole experience helped me to improve my social skills and confidence as well as the ability to use my initiative and work as part of a team.

In 2018 to 2019 whilst completing my Level 1 in Childcare, I was put into a nursery setting for 8 weeks. This helped me to improve my awareness of different things such as safety, interaction and promoting play with children.

I feel all these experiences have helped me to learn to work as part of a team and also independently. I feel it gave me the opportunity to evolve my social skills and communication.
