About Me

Hello there!

I am offering arts and crafts sessions for children and young people aged 5-16, consisting in a couple of hours either after school or during the day. I can offer a lot of engaging activities that are fun and entertaining, away from the screen, and that can help develop social-emotional skills, confidence, and critical thinking at the same time. I was myself the biggest crafter as a kid and I would love to bring this kind of joy to someone else.

All I need is a table or some floor space. I will carefully cover any surface with newspapers, offer aprons to protect clothes as much as possible, and provide all the materials myself (but can also adapt to what you have in the house).

I have just graduated from a photography degree through which I also studied fine art and digital media. Amongst plenty of more traditional ideas, I have a lot of eco-photography activities (based on household materials like instant coffee and vitamin c) in mind so that your children can experience the magic of analogue photography without the involvement of harmful chemicals. I was babysitting throughout my studies and I loved the arts and crafts part of it so much that I decided to make it my career. I have since taken on several child and young people development courses, education and special needs courses, and I am working towards full qualifications. I am PVG checked and registered as self-employed.

After a few months of research and organising I am finally starting out this summer! If you are interested in these sessions please let me know. I offer a free trial session which will be 1hr long, with half an hour of consultation so I can tailor the classes to each family, and half an hour tryout for the children. I am taking the first few experiences as a way to get some feedback and adapt, so I will keep the prices discounted for a while. If the cost is still too high for you I am happy for you to invite other children (friends or neighbours, etc) and split the cost of the sessions with their families. I am happy to work with a maximum of 5 children.

As a service for the adults, I have specialised in photography and memory for my degree, so I'd be happy to assist with the making of scrapbooks and family albums (I have a small portable photo printer and can take care of the organisational side for you) as well as digitalising old negatives. If you are interested in those also send me a message.

Thank you so much for reading this far and hope to hear from you soon :)

Erica

If relevant, I am originally from Italy and have studied languages in high school, so I can speak Italian (fluently), English (fluently, at least that's what I like to think), Spanish (pretty well, especially school level grammar), French (beginner level, I have not practiced it in a while), and Dutch (also at beginner level).

My Experience

Nannying:
I have nannied on and off throughout my university years. Ages 6, 7, 7, 8, and 13. I have also delivered some arts and crafts-only sessions for a family with three kids and I am a sure they would be happy to give references if needed.

Tutoring experience:
I have always tutored children and teenagers at all levels. I have a younger sister (now 18) and have helped her with homework since primary school (lately she has been revising for her high school tests with me through video call). I also tutored many of her friends, as wells as my friends' siblings, cousins, and even fellow students. I genuinely enjoy teaching, give encouragement, and taking the time to help someone better understand a concept. I have undergone tutoring myself for a couple of subjects in high school and can empathise with what it is like to be on the other side (and how frustrating it can sometimes be). I also have some experience with tutoring children with learning disorders, however, I am not a professional and I might not be the best option depending on individual cases, please let's talk about it if you are considering this. References can be provided on request.

Babysitting experience:
I have done the occasional babysitting during my high school years. Primarily looking after 5+ year olds, both during school periods and when the parents were on holiday and needed a hand in the house, and have also occasionally babysat toddlers but always with parent supervision. References can be provided on request.

Additional experience:
Pet sitting, beginners music tutoring (piano and violin).

My Qualifications

I am PVG checked. I have a First Aid certificate and often review the guidelines. I have a First Class honours degree in Photography from Napier. I have certificates from the Open Learning at the Open University in: supporting children and young people's wellbeing, why teach art, introduction to child psychology, studying the arts and humanities. I have undergone training on children's rights though Children in Scotland. I am in contact with several organisation supporting young people and have access to their mentors and resources. As for language qualifications, I have an English C1 certificate and a Spanish B2 certificate.
