About Me

I am a friendly outgoing person, in a good state of health. I am reliable, punctual and well presented. I feel that I am a fairly confident person although I can be a little shy at first. I work well within a team, but am also very capable of working on my own. As i babysitter i see my role as looking after the children in my care to the best of my ability. And listening to advice from parents.

My Experience

School Experience:
2010/2011- Gargrave C.E (V.C) Primary School.
Two week visit and a seven week practice in a mixed Reception and Year 1 class, planning and teaching for the whole period. I took part in arranging a class trip to a farm and a whole class assembly. I helped with the running of cookery club on a Wednesday evening and ran the travelling book fair while it was in school.

April 2010 - Wharfedale Montessori school
Two week placement, I carried out a research project while on placement collecting data to answer my research question ‘How a Montessori school develops a child’s language skills?’. I saw the Montessori theory in practice which increased my knowledge and gave me new ideas to assist in my teaching.

2009- St. Josephs Catholic School, Barnoldswick
Seven week practice in a mixed class Year 1 and Year 2. Teaching a number of lessons each week. I taught a Design technology unit ‘josephs coat’ which included each child designing and making josephs dream coat linking with numeracy work on repeating patterns.

St Joseph’s Catholic School, Bingley
2008 – Two week visit and a six week practice in a mixed Year 1 and 2 class. Teaching various lessons each week. I attended parents’ consultation evening. As well as attending a Numicon training course. While on teaching practice I worked with the Numicon materials during numeracy lessons. I assisted with a school trip to Worth Valley Railway Station and assisted with sports day preparation and organisation.

2007 – Two week visit and a six week practice in a mixed Reception and Year 1 class. Teaching various lessons and enhancing areas of provision including the role play area. The topic being ‘journeys’. I transformed the role play area into a Travel Agents and then a Train Station.

Additional Teaching
Whilst at college I gained experience in many different settings and with a variety of different age groups. I worked at St. Stephen’s Catholic Primary School, Ings Primary School, Bradley Primary School and Craven College Nursery along with a home setting working with a newborn baby. I have worked with children aged 0 – 8 years. While working in these settings I prepared focused activities for the children, carried out many observations and saw the different routines used throughout the day.
Craven College Nursery, Skipton
School Work experience placement (2 weeks)

Other work experience:
2003-2007 The Gallery Cafe
Part –time kitchen assistant. Position involved preparing and cooking food, helping run the cafe, ordering stock, supervising staff (weekends) and key holding.

2006-present Bullough’s cleaning services- part time, cleaning a school and nursery on a daily basis.

2007-present Coffee and Clay- Part time Kitchen assistant/ waitress- Baking cakes and tray bakes, cooking and preparing orders for the cafe, dealing with customers, cleaning of the cafe and key holding. Worked in the pottery painting studio on various occasions supporting children’s pottery painting parties and pottery painting evenings.

2007- present Wharfedale Babies part time- Nursery nurse, observations, supervising, general care of children, preparing snack and setting up activities indoor and outdoor.

I carried out three weeks of volunteer work in Knysna South Africa in August 2010 through Travellers Worldwide. I learned lots of life skills; learning about the different cultures and how other people live, which is something I think is important for children to learn. I went out originally to teach in a school, but all the schools were on strike! I worked in an orphanage setting up activities and games for the children and helping with the daily routines. I also worked in a youth centre helping to run the crèche, planning lessons and teaching the children, preparing them to start school. I spent afternoons talking and working with the street children in the youth centre discussing hobbies and life ambitions. The aim of the youth centre was to get children off the streets, back home with their families and into education. I fundraised the whole of my trip by carrying out fun days, quizzes, handbag parities and other events.
I also carried out two weeks volunteer work in Tanzania in April 2011. I volunteered at a prep school preparing the children to enter primary school. Teaching English and Maths as well as Art activities. The teachers then took leave and the volunteers ran the school as a holiday club carrying out lots of art activities along with games.
In June I travelled to The Gambia with fellow university students on my course and worked with the charity F.R.O.G.S. While there we decorated two grade 5 classrooms and a nursery classroom painting the curricula on the walls. We fundraised as a group to raise the funds for us to get there and for all of the resources needed to carry out the work along with many resources for the school children.
25th July- 13th August 2011- Wharfedale Summer Club- Position involved Planning, preparing and carrying out themed activities with children aged 3-6 years both indoors and outdoors. Themed weeks included pirate week, kids cafe week and summer garden week.
