I am Rachel, also known as Berkeley Childminding. I am a registered childminder living with my husband and two children in a leafy area of Plymouth. We have two large playrooms in addition to an enclosed garden together with an extensive range of resources for children to enjoy ranging from paints, ride on toys, dressing up clothes and masses of lego through to a bouncy castle and a piano!
My aim is to create a homely environment where children are happy, safe and learn through plenty of varied play experiences developing their own individual personalities. I enjoy finding exciting new activities ranging from sensory play and acting out stories through to drawing in sand at the beach and baking gingerbread men!
I am a pretty active childminder and we love being outdoors, venturing out daily. Regular visits include Music Makers, a variety of toddler groups, the Aquarium, the beach and many local parks. I am a keen musician and play the piano, flute and (almost!) the guitar that the children love to listen to.
Coming from a professional background, I understand the importance of knowing that your child has been happy throughout your working day. Therefore each child takes home a daily diary incorporating plenty of pictures! I also write a blog so that parents can see more about their child's time here.
I have been a registered childminder since 2010. In addition to raising my own two children, currently 4 and 6 years old, I have a Level 4 early years qualification, appropriate safeguarding training and am currently studying towards a foundation degree in Early Years Education with the Open University.
I gained a GOOD in my last OFSTED inspection. As an accredited childminder I receive regular support from an early years advisory teacher as well as interacting on a regular basis with other childminders and undertaking numerous training courses.

We decided to place our wee boy with Rachel after much deliberation over the number of options out there - and we are so pleased we did! So much so that now baby number 2 is on the way the first thing we did was check she could accommodate him / her once I'm back to work!
Jack has progressed so much under Rachel's care - as the previous review said as a parent you are informed of the plan on a monthly basis which makes the carryover at home easy. She also communicates with our son's pre school regularly by sharing monthly plans which means we are all singing from the same songsheet. It is something they have commented on specifically as they don't see it often from other childcare providers.
Our son is always more than happy to go in the morning and more often than not he'd rather stay than come home!!
The daily diary is absolutely great as she goes into great detail what they've done and eaten that day so you know exactly what they're doing every day. The monthly photo montage is fabulous and as well as this she puts photos onto her blog on a regular basis which my family absolutely love as they live far away and are keen to keep up with what he's doing - to see photos of this as well makes such a difference. The quality of the photos has also been commented on by various people, my husband included and being a photographer himself is saying something!
All in all we couldn't be happier with Rachel's care - she provides a lovely, warm welcoming home environment meaning I can go to work without a worry that Jack will have a great time while developing into a lovely wee boy. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for childcare in Plymouth.

The decision to place our youngest with Rachel (our oldest two attended a nursery) was the best decision we've made! Our daughter has been so happy with Rachel and the wide range of activites and therefore experience that Rachel has given her has helped her to develop into a confident, lovely, funny and easy-going child.
Rachel's daily diaries have far exceeded those from any of the previous nurseries we've used, so we really do know what she's been doing and how she's been! Rachel also provides a monthly photo montage which gives us even more insight into what our daughter does, and has turned into a wonderful record of her development.
Rachel was so willing to adapt her routines to suit our daughter (like providing her main meal of the day at lunch-time so that she'd actually eat it!) and has always taken the time to find out what we'd like her to focus on on a monthly basis. One of these was to encourage our daughter to walk more rather than use the buggy - and although it made for slower trips to the park, she was happy to help and now our daughter will walk with little fuss. We think that the fact that everyone who was caring for her was giving her the same message helped her to learn more quickly.
Rachel shares her monthly plans with us so we know what our daughter will be doing and can follow up at home, she also asks for our input so we can share with Rachel what our daughter is doing with us (good and bad!).
When we were getting a bit worried about our daughter refusing to name colours as "red" or "blue", Rachel was reassuring and focussed on this in a gentle way, and sure enough, a few weeks later our daughter was describing colours correctly. Not wishing to tempt fate, but so far, we have had very little attention seeking behaviour (biting or hitting) from our youngest which points to a settled, well cared for child. She comes home ever day with a happy smile and runs off each morning to play with her friends.
All in all, I would highly recommend Rachel to you if you are looking for quality childcare from someone who you can rely on and who will care for you child in a thoughful, kind and calm manner.
