About Me
Ofsted registered with a Level 3 NVQ in Childcare, I have over 20 years’ experience of working with children. My cottage in Shaldon is seconds away from the beach. I hold paediatric first aid and CRB police check certificates. I am a member of the Devon Childminding and the National Childminding Associations.
My Experience
In 1984, after completing ‘The Child and the Playgroup’ course at Torquay Technical College, during which I did work experience at a Montessori nursery school, my mother and I started a Pre-School based in our family home on The Green in Shaldon.
From 1992 I took on the roles of both manager and leader. I also studied for and achieved an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education.
The Seagull Pre-School closed in 1997 after a highly successful run of just over thirteen years. After the closure I worked as a voluntary playgroup supervisor in the Bramble Children’s Special Ward based at Exeter Hospital. I also worked part-time at Trinity School, Teignmouth and at Decoy Nursery in Newton Abbot.
In 1997, a special class was set up at Shaldon Primary School for children with additional needs. I assisted the teacher in charge of the class, Liz Deane, with various tasks, both in-group teaching and on a one-to-one basis, and worked as a voluntary classroom assistant in Class 6. I also assisted with outdoor educational visits which included a trip to Wales.
I then applied for and got the position of Mealtime Assistant at the school – a job I have been doing for some years now. My role is to supervise the children while they are eating their lunch. I am also responsible for their welfare and safety during play.
My Qualifications
I hold a paediatric first aid certificate, also a CRB police check certificate.
I have an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education
My Availability
Very flexible.
My Fees
£4 per hour as a basic regardles of length of time and whether there are siblings involved because it's a very personalised service for a small number of children and I include all sorts of extras. With the younger children I suggest a first half term attending just one morning a week and once they are comfortable we move up to a more standard contract covering a number of days in the week as required.
And to keep it straightforward I don't accept any form of voucher. Talk to me about your needs and we'll work out a sensible plan together.
