About Us
Brackenfield is an outstanding (Ofsted 1026) independent day school for boys and girls 2-11 years old. It is situated on the edge of Harrogate in a natural landscape and is the only stand-alone preparatory school in Harrogate. The school has an enviable reputation developed over its forty year history and achieves outstanding results both in academic subjects and in the wider curriculum. We aim for every pupil to leave with a love of learning and having developed a wide range of skills and interests in sporting, creative and academic fields. At Brackenfield we have specialist teachers who foster independent learning and set stretching targets and differentiate support for individual pupils. We also have a unique family atmosphere where teachers and pupils work effectively together and with mutual respect to create an inspiring learning environment. We welcome tours at any time. Our Childcare Provision
Brackenfield School is an independent day school and Nursery for boys and girls from 2-11 years. Rated outstanding by Ofsted (2016) .
Our Nursery and Pre-Nursery Department (for 2-4 year olds) is a welcoming and self-contained department in the school. it has an integrated outdoor learning area adjoining the Nursery classrooms. With a small number of children in our Nursery, each receives individual attention in this welcoming, busy and personalised learning environment. The children in our Nursery Department have priority for places in the main school and we also have a limited number of places available in the Nursery for children who are moving on elsewhere. We are open term time only 8.30 - 3.30 pm with a Breakfast club from 7.30 am and After School Club until 6.00pm.
We have a one form entry with a maximum of 22 pupils per class. In the Infant Department, there is a class teacher and teaching assistant to support the learning in each class. Brackenfield aims to inspire a life long love of learning in all of our pupils and we deliver this through high expectations and specialist teachers who are passionate about ensuring each child develops independent learning skills and the determination to do their best.
