About Us

Little Hayes and Hillfields Early Years & Family Centre is a popular newly formed amalgamated organisation offering placements for children aged 2-4 years of age. It was formed out of the previous Little Hayes Nursery School & Children's Centre and Hillfields Children's Centre of East Bristol. Up to 190 children attend the setting in the course of an academic year and a further 1700 families and children are supported who live in the reach area. Additional provision is found within Eden House a short distance away which serves women who attend services as part of their involvement within the criminal justice system. The school operates on two main sites each of which specialises in providing outdoor learning opportunities in well resourced garden areas. Additional satellite services are provided in about eight different locations. A team of around 50 staff are employed and a high emphasis is placed on staff gaining additional training and qualifications. Senior staff all hold post graduate level 7 qualifications.
The school prides itself on working with parents and tries to provide services which are relevant to meet parental needs. Staff adopt a 'can do attitude' and try hard to overcome challenges - not an easy task in these days of turbulent change.
Some children attend school for their allocated 15 hours and a good many attend for longer.
Many children attend this setting for up to three years and they transfer mainly to nearby schools of which there are some string partnerships.
Health, Social Care and the Police services all work in good partnership and some visit often.
The aim of the school is to encourage as much integration as possible ensuring that all children's needs are met in a flexible way. There are many children attending who have diverse and different backgrounds and some have identified special educational needs. For the past ten years OFSTED have commented on the school in favourable and supportive judgements.

Our Childcare Provision

Top up provision above a child's allocated 15 hours is offered when there is availability on term time only basis. A Fees policy is implemented which has been agreed by Governors.
Some children are supported to attend a maximum of 30 hours a week educational provision.
Welfare requirements are promoted throughout a child's attendance at our setting.
Staff operate approved ratios and are encouraged to work pro actively alongside parents ensuring their input and ideas are incorporated into learning and care planning.
Top up provision is a fairly new introduction this year and Governors are keen to monitor benefits and want to see the service become fully sustainable.
