About Me
I am originally from Canada but moved to the UK in 2012 with my husband (who is British). I have been working in the education sector since 2007 as well as becoming mum to two beautiful children (age 2 and a half and 3 months). I have had lots of experience working with children of various abilities. I am very passionate about what I do. Just ask my students. I have lived on 3 different continents (Asia, Europe and North America) and love to travel and learn about new cultures. I speak English and French and have a desire to improve my Spanish. In my free time I love to cook, bake, read, spend time with my nieces and pet cat As someone who suffers from multiple food allergies (dairy, gluten - wheat, rye and barley - and corn), I am confortable thinking outside of the box when it comes to preparing meals. I would love to learn more about sustainable farming and love going to farmers markets. I do not smoke.
My Experience
I am currently working for a Special Needs Secondary School (specialising in Autism) as a Learning Support Assistant in SuttonI I have been with them since September 2017. I have helped my students access mainstream curriculum, worked on their communication and social skills and implemented different programs such as sensory diets, behaviour programs and worked with students on their mental health and anxiety.
In 2015/2016, I supported a year 6 student who had Autism and after he left the school, I decided to specialise in SEN and worked with various agencies until I took time off to have my son.
From 2012 to 2015 I was for a primary school near Turnam Green tube station, I worked with the same group of children since I started at the school. I have been assisting the teachers with both Numeracy and Literacy. I have also been running several numeracy, spelling and reading intervention groups. I have also begun to implement a child's occupational therapy program. I also work with a lot of children on anger management issues, help children with their social skills and sometimes am just a shoulder to lean on when they need to have a chat. When I am not running interventions, I have been helping the teacher with day-to-day tasks and participating in workshops/professional development seminars at the school.
Before I worked in London, I lived in Spain and taught ESL to children at a Spanish Primary and Secondary school as a Conversation Teacher from 2010-2012. From January 2009 - July 2010, I worked in two schools as an ESL teacher in South Korea.
