My Summary
About Me
Hello, I am 34 and live in Somerset. I have a fun and friendly personality and love working with children. I am reliable, honest and hard working.
From early childhood, my main hobby has been my horses. I love spending time with my beautiful baby boy, my family and being outside. I also enjoy travelling and keeping fit.
My Experience
I have been working with children and families in a wide variety of settings over the past seven years- spending time working as a activity worker, teaching assistant, key worker and in gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies. I am passionate about working with children and their families and believe that the diverse range of experiences I have had over the last few years have provided me with a great transferable skill set.
In my previous role at a Children's centre I helped to create an environment that is welcoming and accessible to all, ensuring inclusion, sensitivity and positivity. One aspect of my role was to prepare, organise and deliver activities for children and their families, in doing this I have developed excellent relationships with parents and carers offering them support and advise with their child's development helping them reach their full potential and improving their outcomes.
My previous role at a local Primary School required me to be creative, adaptable, patient and reflective. I taught a reception class Numeracy and Literacy, teaching those lessons independently allowed me to use my initiative in recording, assessing, and observing, reporting back to the class teacher to plan the necessary steps, when needed, to progress the children’s learning further. I believe that early eduction plays an important and vital role in children's lives. I feel that I interact well with families and that my fun and friendly personality are essential skills needed for the role of a nanny.
Whilst working at the Primary School, I worked in two classrooms with three class teachers as well as other support staff, whilst doing this I gained excellent communication skills and developed a clear understanding in the effectiveness of information sharing and confidentiality. I believe that children benefit when we work together as a team and know that my own practice has improved when I have worked with and asked for the advice and support of others. This is something that I value in my day to day working.
Over the past seven years, I have developed a keen interest in working with children with special educational needs and chose to spend a four week block placement during my degree in a special needs school. This placement challenged me as the child adult ratio was extremely high, therefore good communication was paramount amongst staff and outside agencies. Whilst on placement here I attended regular weekly meetings which kept me up to date and informed.
Before my maternity, I was employed by Exeter University as a wellbeing practitioner working with children from age 5-18. I also trained whilst working there and am now qualified in Psychological Therapies Practice (Low Intensity Cognitive behavioural therapy ).
I believe my degree has provided me with an in depth knowledge of child development and family dynamics. My degree has enabled me to develop a high level of effective written and verbal skills that I now use in my everyday practice. I also believe that having such a wide range of experience in different childcare settings has helped me develop patience, empathy and sensitivity, skills that are essential for working with children.
I am passionate about making learning fun and exciting and have thoroughly enjoyed planning and delivering a range of diverse activities throughout my placements
I can provide excellent references.
