About Me

During my college course I completed over 750+ hours of work experience in a nursery and reception class setting at St Louis Catholic Academy Newmarket. Within my experience, I supported children in Early Years with their learning and development. I was required to build a Practical Evidence Portfolio of Skills and therefore in this primary school setting I had the opportunity to perform skills such as writing/carrying out activity plans, recording observations, leading group activities, assisting on outings and supporting learning schemes such as Jolly Phonics. Within my Reception class placement, I increased my knowledge on phonics by learning about diagraphs/trigraphs and also observed techniques such as decoding/blending letters and sounds needed for reading/writing. For Mathematics and Numeracy, I supported the teachers in their use of key terms such as “more than” and “less than” in the
classroom and encouraged the learning of number bonds using resources like Numicon. My experience at this school was thoroughly enjoyable and highly valuable in my continuing professional development.
When I joined Colourbox Montessori Nursery School it was a brand-new nursery and I gained lots of responsibility working as a one of only three members of staff. Furthermore, this job had a huge impact on my confidence and skills for working with children age 5 and under. Within my role, I performed vital care routines, supported free flow play, assisted meal and sleep times, recorded observations, supported my key children, promoted the Montessori method to development and encouraged children’s independence in key skills. Liaising with parents was also an essential part of my job at drop off and pick up.
In my role at Culford School I worked between Nursery, Year 1 and Year 2. In nursery I supported a mixture of adult-led and child- initiated learning through various holistic development activities. I recorded observations using tapestry against the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) outcomes, led story time, assisted snack times as well as perform basic care routines. I have also led many group activities. In year 1 and 2, I supported 1:1 reading, key word practice, intervention activities and marking. Within this position I was also given the responsibility to lead morning activities and registration due to staff sickness. I enjoyed my job and the experience I attained at Culford.
St Christopher Robins was a similar role to Colourbox nursery. I was responsible for 7 key children including SEN development.
Alongside previous jobs, I’ve also worked for a number of families babysitting/nannying on the side and absolutely loved building positive relationships with the parents and children. I used to carry out all sorts of activities with the children, take them on days out and carry out necessary care routines. All my families still keep in touch which is also lovely.
