About Me
I am 26 years old and live in Battlefield on the South Side of Glasgow. I am college and university qualified in various subjects relating to the Social Sciences (majoring in Philosophy and Politics).
I work for a small charity 4 days per week and in 2019, will begin my studies to qualify as a Primary Teacher.
I enjoy keeping fit by walking in the countryside, running, swimming and yoga. I love to read and have a real passion for education, in both formal and non-formal contexts.
My Experience
I have over 10 years experience of working with children and young people. I have been a mamber of Girl Guiding UK for this period, planning, mentoring and organising for groups of over 20 young women and girls.
Through my charity work, I have designed and deliver a 'Homework Club' project for Refugee and Asylum Seeking families in Glasgow. This service is well established and expanding its reach into Primary school's I am working with in Glasgow. It focuses on supporting children and families with a lack of knowledge of the Scottish education system with homework tasks, and provides literacy and numeracy support for children.
I am the PVG officer in my place of work, being up to date in the most recent child protection legislation in Scotland.
My Qualifications
I have 3 Highers, an HND (grade A) in Social Sciences and a degree in Philosophy with Politics (2:1) from the University of Glasgow.
Through my career I have taken training on issues relating to educating and supporting children and young people. These include; working with children and young people with challenging behaviour, child protection, the GIRFEC approach (Scotland only), PVG Disclosure Scotland, working with child refugees, how children experience poverty (NSPCC) and how to effectively know that projects with children are working (Children in Need).
My Availability
I'm available most evenings, after work and all-day/evening on Saturday and Sunday.
