My Experience

My first year as a childminder provided a wealth of experience I was not expecting, I remained open throughout the Covid 19 lockdown caring for Keyworkers children. Maintaining continuity of care for them while the routine they were used to was so drastically changed. All our usual trips to the zoo, farms, museums, were stopped. Meeting up with other childminders and attending the children's centre and library stopped. Adapting to this new world has had challenges, as the world we could go exploring got smaller, the depth of exploration in our home and garden increased. We have been blessed with all kinds of insects and birds visiting the garden. We have planted out and successfully grown sweet peas, sunflowers, tomatoes, cucumber and potatoes. There has been lots of dancing and singing and laughter, painting, baking, and joyous mess making.

I have completed the EYPDP language and literacy for 2-4s course. Which teaches the specialist knowledge and strategies needed to support children's language and learning development whatever and wherever they are being taught. I have achieved communication friendly setting status.

I completed the Wanderlust: A Nature Study Programme, provided by Hygge in the Early Years. Teaching and sharing guidance and resources for more time outside using the natural world for education. This is used as a basis for our curriculum.

I worked as a childcare assistant at Childsplay in Greasby Junior School. This provision cared for children aged 3-11, before and after school term time and full days in the holidays. In this role I planned crafts and games. Prepared snacks and ensured children ate their pack lunches. I also assisted in guiding them through homework activities.
I volunteered at KidzKlub at Greasby Methodist Church, a group for 7-11year olds, where I lead dances, helped with games and activities and teaching bible stories for 10years. I also spent 5years as a volunteer youth leader at St Nicholas Church in Greasby.
I worked as a childcare assistant at Impact after school club at Greasby Methodist Church, a very similar role to my job at Childsplay.
