About Me
Hello there! My name is Mariz, aged 29, born and raised in the Philippines. I trained in Hospitality and tourism, receiving my BSc in 2013 I then moved to the UK and become a resident in 2017. Since the pandemic, my career has been in transition, and I am now looking to gain experience in childcare.
My friends, family, and colleagues tell me I am friendly am fand warm, always energetic, and looking to make others happy. I have also been told I have a very good work ethic and curiosity and willingness to learn. In my spare time, I enjoy taking care of my home and my houseplants, and playing badminton to keep fit.
My Experience
Although I don't have formal experience in childcare, I have lots of experience around children, and spending time with them comes very naturally to me. My sister and I grew up in an extended family environment, with lots of visits from cousins and other kids, and so when I was a teenager I had experience in looking after little ones. I really adore kids, and becoming an auntie in 2020 was very exciting for me. I've since spent lots of time with my little nephew, Ethan, who is now nearly 3. I have looked after him on occasion so my sister can have some down time, as he keeps her so busy!
I've also had some small childcare responsibilities in other jobs I have worked in. In hospitality environments, I would sometimes be responsible for keeping an eye on kids, for example in the spa area by the hotel pool where I worked. During a brief period where I trialled dental nursing training, I was responsible for helping kids get through their appointment and putting them at ease. Though it wasn't easy seeing them in a nervous state, it was nice to be able help them relax, and it was always fun seeing them happy at the end, and making them feel how brave they are.
A typical day with me would involve dancing and singing as well as sports sometimes, baking and other fun activities. I love going out to the park if the weather permits. I always ask kids how they feel, take an interest in how they would want to be cared for, and learn their likes and dislikes. But I would always be guided too by their parents' approval.

Mariz came to us at a time of need- it was going to be ad hoc for a short time. She did the role perfectly. She really got right down to our toddler son's level and was a true playmate and friend. He loved her. She thought up activities for them to do and brought in puzzles, crafts, art, went to the play ground. Super responsible and ready to jump in with whatever he needed done. Great attention to detail, gentle, well presented and personable. High recommended.
