About Me
I quit my job in an SEN school in July 2023 to be more flexible to look after and spend more time with my elderly grandparents. I loved my job but sadly it didn't offer me the flexibility as a family we now needed. I am firm but fair, I expect a certain level of decorum at all times however i know how to play and how to get on a childs level. I am happy to follow a schedule or be left to come up with ideas myself.
My Experience
I worked in a SEN school for 9 years. I have worked with children with all kinds of abilities and behaviours. I have worked with pre-verbal children as well as children with communication aids such as PECS or ipads. I can also offer personal care such as nappy changing/ assistance with feeding for all ages. I am trained in a total communications approach, which includes knowing makaton. I am trained in tacpac and other sensory based methods to aid a child in crisis. I have been practicing child led play my whole carer and can find a common ground with all children. I am also familier with gastrostomy feeding, medication schedules and epilepsy. I have worked with children with epilepsy and am confident in how to deal with different seizures, following protocols provided by profresionals and giving rescue meds.
My Qualifications
I have a qualification in Support teaching and learning Level 2 & 3. Along the way in the SEN school I completed lots of training including, Tacpac, total communication, food hygiene, safeguarding, PECS, TEACHH, epilepsy, sensory processing training and I have previously had 6 years of pediactric first aid training, however this has sadly run out.
