About Me
Hi, my name is Sue and I have been a childminder for 31 years and have seen lots of changes. I have 1 daughter who Lives quite close to me. I became a childminder has my daughter was very clingy when she was young and wouldn't go to anyone, some days not even her dad.
All my Ofsted inspections have been graded good. I don’t want to be outstanding as there is too much pressure.
In 2005 I won an ambassadors award for the quality and commitment in childcare, this was a very proud time for me. I work within Ofsted guidelines and can offer nursery education as well as two year entitlement of 15 hours a week and have to work using EYFS same as nursery schools but have more freedom to take children out to the park or to feed the ducks or play areas.
I love my job, it is like an extended family with the families I care for, a lot of which I have cared for long term.
I have a small dog Poppy who is 3 years old and loves the children I care for, she is a Poochon and is suitable for children with allergies and asthma as she doesn’t lose hair.
When I am not working I like to go off in my caravan with friends
My Experience
I have been a childminder for 31 years and really enjoy my job, all the children I care for have become part of my family.
I have cared for lots of children and families over the years, some for social services when these families needed help, I had some children on respite to give parents a break.
Over the years I have cared for children and families from different cultures and with different abilities and needs, all the children I have cared for have grown up together feeling loved, valued and special in their own right. I treat all the children I care for with equlaity and always consider their individual needs.
During my time has a childminder all my families came to me from recommendations from other families and they have nearly all been long term from babies. The oldest left in August 2019 age 19 years who I cared for from 3 months old.
I always try and offer different experiences for the children by taking them on different outings like trips to different areas, long walks so they can investigate in trees etc. we go to toddler groups and play centers so the children can interact with other children to help with their social skills.
I include the children in all things in my setting, they even help design where things should be when we have a move round within the play room.
I like to think I have total inclusion at all times in a safe and welcoming environment.
The school I take the children to is St Michaels and All Angels on Stonyford Road, low Valley, Wombwell.
I have only one vacancy for All ages as my little ones are starting full time school and my older ones are moving onto high school. They grow up so quickly
My Qualifications
I have a level 3 qualification and a level 4 nvq qualification. I started to get these qualifications in 2005 and really enjoyed doing these as I left school without any qualifications at all, so I feel very proud of myself. Also in 2005 I won an Ambassadors award for my work within the Childcare sector.
My latest training is for computer ECDL and I have just finished a data protection course.
I have just completed a Team-Teach training, this is how to handle children with behaviour problems safely without upsetting or hurting them, it has taught me how to restrain a child in a safe manner. (Hopefully I won't have to use it)
I do any extra training when it is available as I feel it is important to devlope my practice.
All my family have all had a full CRB check even though they don't live with me, these are redone every 3 years.
I have also got ICO certificate for data protection which is necessary when using digital photos and security cameras on my premises.
