My Summary
About Me
A little bit about myself
I began childminding in 1999. Originally based in Childwall, I worked there until 2017, when I relocated to Huyon.
I have a son Nicholas who is a sergeant in the American military, He lives with his wife and three children in South Carolina. I have two daughters, Ally who runs her own health and beauty business, and Charlotte, who.is a secondary school teacher. They are both settled and have their own homes. We are very close and see each other often
I have made my home into my setting and a welcome, child friendly and inviting place for children. Enabling them to feel happy to learn and grow in a place were they feel warm, safe and secure.
I live in a semi detached house, which has a front and back garden. There is a conservatory to the back of the house, which leads out into a very child friendly back garden, with a lots of space to play and explore, an area space for the children to plant and grow vegetables, herbs and flowers, This is a wonderful and fun way to provide the children with skills to help their development, engaging all of their senses, enhancing fine motor skills, building upon early maths and science, as well as learning about responsibility and healthy eating. The outside space is safe and secure and with lots of outdoor toys and activities and is an exciting and adventurous place for little explorers.
Inside, is warm and cosy, very child friendly, bright and colourful, and instantly visually stimulating to curious little eyes!, with lots of soft cuddly bears, a home area, and an extensive library corner, packed with stories and information books from all corners of the world, for lots of stories and learning, which I am passionate about. Stories, poems, rhymes and reading will play a huge part with children in my care. I love to read to the children and find stories capture their imagination and can lead to endless questions and possibilities, enabling thought process, ideas, and creativity as well as building on their understanding and learning, and above all is such a pleasure to listen to a story, always captivates, and brings the children together. Our 'busy' shelves are packed full of wonderful resources, for the children to enjoy, including a large selection of puppets, cd's and musical instruments, art and craft materials, which I have to say is another passion of mine, and the children have every opportunity to get crazy creative and messy play is my all time favourite. Utilising every medium and resource, including natural resources collected by the children when out and about, collected responsibly, for us to pick up, not taken! on days out. There would be many days 'out and about' as I believe the children can benefit and learn so much from being outdoors, from learning about safety, safe walking, holding hands, holding the pram, road safety etc. to the wider world and their environment. A simple walk in the park holds so much to be explored, and can uncover endless learning opportunities. There are also, games, puzzles, and many other resources and activities to add to promoting the children's learning and development.
I love to cook and bake and this reflects in my menus, all meals and snacks are home cooked, fresh, nutritionally balanced and healthy. I am accomplished and experienced in the kitchen and have cooked for most cultures and dietary needs and requirements, and able to adapt menus and recipes to suit. I encourage the children to cook and bake, this encourages them to develop an understanding about food and how food helps our bodies to grow, and stay healthy, giving them grounds on which to support healthy eating and choices. With fun cooking and baking days, here the children can experiment with food and ingredients in a safe and controlled area to make and bake tasty snacks and lunches for themselves or something special to take home for their family to taste and enjoy. This is a super way to incorporate many learning opportunities, and is always fun and exciting and a firm favourite with the children.
I have two cats, Toucho and Mitzy, they are getting on in years, but all are very very friendly and would not mind at all a stroke or cuddle from a little admirer! and the children often like to help care for them, which is lovely and gives more opportunity for understanding and learning. Caring does not stop with the pets, in the garden we can help to feed the birds and other wild life too.
Our days are mostly planned and organised between different playgroups, childminding group, libraries, Art Galleries, and Museums, were we enjoy our 'culture days' including 'big art' for songs, craft and story time in the William Brown Museum, and Central Library. Favourite days out include, Formby Point, Delamere Forest, many farms and beaches, Chester zoo, local parks and the waterfront.
I like to take the children out to explore and discover, as I believe they can learn so much from this, from road safety, their own safety and self awareness to finding out about their environment, exploring and discovering in wide open spaces, having access to nature and wildlife, enabling them to learn and appreciate all that it holds, as well as the benefits of fresh air, and any mixture of weather that comes our way!, taking food with us we make the most of our days out.
My passions in life include, music, art and craft, baking and cooking, animals, nature and the natural world, all of which I like to encourage with the children as part of their learning and development.
