Free childcare and early education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds in England

Currently, all 3 and 4 year olds in England are eligible for 570 hours of free early education or childcare per year. This is usually taken as 15 hours each week for 38 weeks of the year. Since September 2014 some 2 year olds are also entitled to a free childcare place.

Free early education and childcare places are available in a wide range of settings including: maintained nursery schools, nursery classes attached to primary schools and private, voluntary and independent (PVI) providers including play groups, pre-schools, day nurseries, independent schools, independent childminders and childminders registered with a childminder agency.
