Welcome to Little Seals home based childcare!
My name is Alison and I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder. I have over 30 years experience in looking after children in a childminding setting.
Whilst children are in my care, I encourage them learn though play and have lots of fun. I have a huge range of resources to suit all ages and abilities and the children take part in a wide range of interesting and well-resourced experiences throughout the week.
My resources are stored in boxes for the children to choose independently and for those that are unable to, I have all my resources photographed in a ring binder for them to communicate their wishes.
We enjoy visiting the Aquadrome, library, local parks, toddler groups, go for walks rain or shine, and have trips on a bus. We also go to the shops, where we talk about where the produce comes from, as well as talking to people from the local community.
At my previous Ofsted inspections in May 2011 and January 2016, I was graded 'Outstanding' in all areas, which I am very proud of as I always strive to provide high quality care.
If you would like any further information or perhaps would like to visit my setting, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Alison has been an absolute life saver!
I cannot recommend Alison enough. Since being in Alisons care, my daughters behaviour has improved so much, her attitude has changed, she even eats vegetables she said she didn’t like. Alison has been so supportive with us and we are able to contact her any time of day or night if needed. She not only has supported my daughter but our whole family which i am forever grateful. Alison is fantastic with all ages if children and loves and cares for them as if they were her own and it shows. She makes fresh, healthy meals daily and always offers a wide Range of fruit and veg. At the time my daughter was cared for by alison, we were having some issues and if it wasn’t for alison, i don’t know what we would have done!
Thank you Alison xxxx
We were searching for full time childcare for our 9 month old son. We met with Alison and thought she was truly excellent. We ended up selecting nursery care but purely due to our own schedules. Our preference would have been to go with Alison, for the following reasons:
- she is clearly incredibly experienced and loves kids. There was no question that our son would be safe and looked after with Alison and her husband
- her Ofsted rating speaks for itself
- her house exudes love, and is clearly well maintained - her toy shed is epic and packed full of creative and learning toys
- she grows her own veg and gets her kids to help.
All in all it felt like we’d be leaving Jasper with the best grandma ever, who would ensure he was learning every day.
We’re a bit gutted that it didn’t work out and I still hope in the future we may be able to work with Alison, if our own commitments ease up. Highly recommended.
I cannot recommend Alison highly enough. She took full time care of my daughter when I returned to work and always went above and beyond. From the moment we met Alison, my husband, daughter and I instantly felt at ease. We were made to feel like part of the family and any nerves or worries about leaving our little one quickly faded. Alison always takes the time at drop off and pick up to talk to me, filling me in on the adventures she has had with my daughter but also taking a genuine interest in how my day has also been. Alison upholds a core set of values through her care and I would not hesitate to call upon her again to look after my children. You are truly made to feel like part of Alison’s family and she always has has time to listen and take care of an exhausted mummy or daddy as well as their children!
I cannot recommend Alison enough. I messaged her asking if she can look after my 2.5 year old last minute, she was quick in responding to my message, I had been left without a child minder unexpectedly and I needed childcare within a week, Alison is the nicest, kindest lady I have had the pleasure to talk to in a very long time and wouldn't hesitate to leave my most treasured possession in her care. She could only help me short term which was a amazing in itself but I managed to get the required hours elsewhere so my daughter wont be going to Alison but I know that if I ever needed help with child care Alison will be the first person I contact. She was so helpful and accommodating and I cannot thank her enough for her understanding and helpfulness in what was a very stressful situation. Thank you for all your help Alison, I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
On my return to full time work in London in 2009 after our first child, we decided to look along the route of a nursery as we hadn’t lived in the area for all that long. However, we felt that at under 12 months old, our daughter Isabella was a bit ‘lost’ in the nursery environment and by chance, a neighbour recommended we speak with Alison.
We met with Alison and quickly felt confident that she was a good fit for Isabella and us. Alison was caring for two more children around Isabella’s age, so when she was placed with Alison, she quickly settled in. Isabella seemed content in the home environment and we were encouraged by the activities she enjoyed exploring, which we were able to see in her 'Learning Journal.' It also gave us some flexibility with early drop-offs or late pick-ups on the odd occasion. Alison continued to care for Isabella on a full time basis until December 2010 when I commenced maternity leave with our second child, although she continued to look after Isabella for a couple of short days per week for the duration of my year-long maternity leave.
I returned to work for four days per week in January 2011, at which point Isabella started in the local school nursery. Alison looked after our son, Finlay, who was now 13 months for these full days and looked after Isabella before and after nursery. Finlay also enjoyed his time with Alison and again, it was great as parents to see his development and enthusiasm for being busy in his 'Learning Journal.'
In March 2014 I started a part-time role locally, which allowed me to take Isabella to school and collect her, so after 4 ½ years, her time with Alison was over, although Finlay remained in her care for short days. In September 2014, Finlay joined the local school nursery, but Alison collected him four days per week and looked after him until I got back for the school pick up.
Finlay started full time school in September 2015, so after almost 6 years, we no longer require Alison’s services! Needless to say, as a friend, neighbour and a very visible member of the community, we have and I am sure will continue to keep in touch.
We recommend Alison highly and wish her well for the future.
