My names Emily, I'm 29 years old and I'm currently at University qualifying to be a Speech And Language Therapist.
In 2013 I worked as a Teacher at an International Montessori School in Bangkok. My Montessori training and knowledge, enables me to have a deeper understanding of children's development. This experience, as well as my Teaching and Speech Therapy training, gives me the ability to create stimulating, safe and fun learning environments.
When I returned to the UK I started working as a supply Teacher, TA and 1:1 support within various schools around Manchester. In one long term contract I worked as an EAL Teacher. As well as assisting the children in their regular classes, I also created and taught withdrawal Classes to help the children improve their English.
In 2015 I begn working and training as a Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. My main role was to deliver evidence based classes to groups of young children, developing their Speech and Language through fun games and activities. I also helped create the sessions and prepare the resources and materials needed. In addition, I visited nurseries to deliver pre-school booster classes and provide training to parents, nursery staff and Teachers.
I am confident in Makaton and currently learning BSL.

This in house training taught me all about the Montessori way of teaching. I got a full background and history of Maria Montessori and her practices. I was then taught about the areas of child development and about the different Montessori materials that assist each of these areas and how. Each day my class did two hours of Montessori Time and so my training was put in to practice during this time.
Aug‘13 – TEFL England at Kent School of Languages, Bangkok:
120 hour classroom TEFL Certificate
This course allowed me to hone my lesson planning skills, particularly around the 4 language disciplines; reading, writing, speaking and listening, and then present these lessons as teaching practices. The course focused on the differing abilities of students, took a wide look at language and grammar, and analysed the different teaching approaches appropriate to the varying styles of learning. The instructor feedback was good, particularly in reference to my enthusiastic and encouraging teaching personality; how I engaged students and my use of positive reinforcement. I was also given particularly great feedback from my peers regarding the different activities I came up with.
GCSE Child Development
This two year course helped develop my knowledge and understanding of children's development stages, needs and issues. I gained a B grade through producing both practical and theoretical work. To complete this course I had to understand the physical, emotional and social development stages of early childhood. I also chose to look in to numerical and verbal development skills whilst undertaking a study of an individual child to research these areas.
Additionally I had to complete a child focused task aimed at children from 0 – 5 years old. I decided to concentrate on socialisation and chose to identify and investigate a range of activities to improve a child's social skills that can also be acquired within the child's home.
