I have been a self employed Nanny for the last 15 years and 3 years as a Mothers help. I spent 28 years within the Leisure industry and worked with children within a sporting environment and realised that I wanted to devote more time with them, teaching them to grow and develop. I love showing children what they can learn about the world so enjoy taking them outside to the beach, the zoo, the forest, playgroups, oceanarium, cycle rides and much more. Equally indoors, I enjoy art and craft, reading, writing and other educational pursuits. I aim to make it as much fun as possible because that's how children best learn. Mostly I have had sole charge of the children and have probably learnt as much as them as well. Its good to meet up with the other parents because it reinforces your own experience and gives you the support you need.
I began with an 18 month and a 4 year old. The younger child suffered with allergies (slight asthma) and a reaction to peanuts so I had to be highly vigilent of that at all times. I learnt that every family have their particular ways of raising children so I was always careful to give great respect to this. Similarly, I learnt ways of cooking food to a particular culture and how exciting that was. Working with agencies, I have taken on board many of the aspects of cultural differences, respect and medical conditions. At present I work with an 8 & 12 year old. Totally different ball game. There is homework assistance, piano, flute, drums, sailing, dancing, horse riding and other activities to organise. I have sole charge most of the time and have a very tight schedule to achieve. I have drawn on my personal professional and Leisure Management skills to attend to this.
