About Me

I am Stilly (a nickname I have had since school), a qualified and registered childminder with Ofsted and a member of the National Childminding Association (NCMA) with whom I am fully insured. I am also a member of the Trio Childminding Network and the Florence Park Childminders Project.

My wife Katy and I have two children, Daisy (born May 2004) and Harry (born Feb 2006). We live in a three-floored terrace house in a quiet cul-de-sac in Iffley. The house has a large conservatory playroom and a spacious secure garden. There are stair gates and security locks through out. Neither my wife or I smoke, nor we do not have any pets.

Until Daisy was born I worked as a senior care manager for the NHS in Sheffield. When Daisy was 4 months old Katy received promotion, and subsequently we all moved to Oxford and I took over as a full-time daddy.

I love spending time with my family and try to always provide a loving and happy home environment. We all do a lot of playing, singing, reading and arty things together. Daisy and Harry are now full-time at Larkrise School, which they love. I currently have 3 children in my care and we regularly visit a variety of drop-in-centres and playgroups on week days, such as Rose Hill Surestart, Florence Park Family Centre, Donnington Doorstep, and East Oxford Community Centre. We also regularly enjoy Iffley Meadow and Iffley Lock’s ducks, Iffley Woods and numerous local parks. This allows children in my care to mix with other children and to further their skills and knowledge.

I hold a full clean driving licence and I have Public Liability Insurance insured through PACEY.

I was last Ofsted inspected in January 2015 when I received an Outstanding grade. Contact me for a chat.

My Experience

Facilities that the children can enjoy in my home include a large safe and secure garden for outdoor play with many activities including play house, see-saw, paddling pool, and various vehicles. We have numerous indoor toys which include a doll’s house, castle, building blocks, marble runs, dressing up box, train set, kitchen equipment, trampoline, musical instruments, and dozens of jigsaws and games. Since Katy works in the book selling business we have many story and activity books, and CD music and story books, and we spent a lot of time reading. I am especially interested in art and creativity, and therefore there is always a lot of messy play going on such as drawing, painting, and cookery.
For the younger ones we have a nappy changing station and cot situated in a quiet room with black-out blinds. We have a baby bath available and numerous baby toys.

The house has numerous smoke detectors all which have been inspected by the fire brigade. All plug points have safety covers fitted and all kitchen cupboard doors are fitted with safety locks.

Behaviour Management
I manage behaviour by praising and giving attention to children and focus upon raising confidence. I treat all children in my care equally whilst respecting their individual needs and abilities. I always aim to teach children to respect other people and belongings. I use sticker charts in order to reward good behaviour and I am consistent with teaching clear boundaries and explaining my reasons why. I teach children about healthy eating with regular mealtimes. Children have as much time to eat as they need and all sit down at the table together. I aim to provide all children with their 5 a day, including organic products, and I also allow occasional treats.

My Qualifications

I have an English honours Degree and a Diploma in ‘Addiction Studies’ from Leeds University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in ‘Management of Health and Social Care’, from Sheffield Hallam University. I have also attended short courses in ‘Managing Child Protection’ from Sheffield Area Child Protection Committee, ‘Managing Health and Safety – Risk Assessments’ from South Yorkshire Constellation Training.

Our 20 month son has been with Stilly for just over a year and we are so happy we made the decision to ask Stilly to care for him.

He is caring, creative, professional and reliable and both my husband and I trust him to always put the needs of our son first. Stilly's relaxed yet attentive approach encourages curiosity and confidence in small people and his wider family provide a very welcoming home from home for our son.

As we were first time parents we had all sorts of concerns about how to settle a baby with a new carer, how to ensure our son could be bottle fed breastmilk, would he ever sleep etc etc. From day 1 Stilly looked after both us and our son! He made the whole process easy, seemed to understand the complexities of life when juggling work and a young child and has a great sense of humour to boot. Seriously, what more can you want!
