My Summary

My Experience

I have a lot of experience in childcare: for three and a half years I was a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school in a challenged area. I spent most of this time working in the English department, preparing children (mostly GCSE level) for their upcoming exams, with assessed work and with coursework. I worked both one-on-one and with groups. Starting this job so young, I found that I had a real connection with the students, and was often able to communicate with them when other staff members struggled to calm them down or get them to behave. After the first year of my work within the department, I helped to increase GCSE results by 13.5% from the previous year.
After this, I got promoted to a Level 2 TA, working in the school's autism unit. Here I worked with a range of children, who I really bonded with and miss very much. I found the transition to working with special needs children very easy and enjoyable, as my younger brother has Asperger's Syndrome. I worked with other staff members to deliver team-taught lessons, worked in a classroom environment, and led several lessons alone. The biggest challenge I faced was helping two AS/A Level students through their Art coursework and exams. Seeing the eldest of them move on to his foundation art degree was so satisfying after all the work that had been put in. I also taught Spanish to one young boy within the autistic unit. This was challenging, as he had troubles staying focused on the task at hand for too long. To combat this, I would ensure that once a fortnight we would have a 'Spanish Culture Day', where we cook Spanish dishes, listen to Spanish music and do more relaxed activities. I would make all my own handouts, worksheets and resources for my lessons. I also initiated an English club for foreign students during registration time, where students with low English abilities could come and practice and improve with me, as well as running a lunch time art club for the students.
After this, I became an au pair to two five year old boys in Rome. This experience is what would make me an ideal nanny: I woke, washed, dressed, fed, entertained, disciplined and settled the boys; providing every level of care to them. By the end of the experience I felt I was incredibly close to them. On top of this, I go to Florence once a year to stay with a family with two teenage daughters, to whom I teach English. I have also been the regular babysitter (including overnight) for a family with three young children, two of whom I have babysat since they were newborns.

My Qualifications

I have a DBS certificate, am trained in Epipen Administration, WRAP, WRAT, BlueSky, Autism training, and Child Safeguarding.

My Availability

As a PGR student I'm very flexible, and am currently looking to take on as much work as possible.

My Fees

• Babysitting from £15.00 per hour
• Nannying from £15.00 per hour (gross)

I charge £10+ph (e.g. major cooking and cleaning or errands would result in a higher fee).
