My Summary
About Me
I have over 10 years experience working with children. I previously nannied for a family of 5 for 3.5 years whilst studying a masters degree in Psychology in Education and a second masters in Applied Neuropsychology. Before my postgraduate studies, I worked in Germany as an au-pair for a year for a family of 5, and as a special needs nanny for families with children with complex needs (cerebral palsy, autism, profound learning disability). During my undergraduate studies in psychology I worked as a student nurse at a psychiatric hospital with children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disabilities, and with adolescents with bipolar disorder and conduct disorders. I also volunteered throughout my undergraduate studies, tutoring children at the YMCA, volunteering at the Ronald MacDonald House, and volunteering at the daycare centre of the local women's shelter. I have experience with overnight care, children with complex needs, assisting with homework and bedtime routines, household chores and cooking, families with multiple young children, transporting to and from activities/school. I am looking to work with a friendly family, who would be happy to welcome me into their family.
As a person, I have a range of hobbies from arts (painting, drawing, macrame, etc,) to fitness (yoga, running, HIIT, ultimate frisbee, kayaking, etc.). I enjoy spending time outdoors and I love animals (I have a lovely fluffy dog!). I would consider myself to be kind, patient, and fun.
Currently, I work as an Assistant Psychologist in the NHS - supporting adults with learning disabilities in need of intensive support and/or experiencing mental health crises. Whilst working in the NHS I have accessed much additional training; I am well versed in Positive Behaviour Support and have certificates in children's' safeguarding and first aid.
I very much enjoy working with children and so am looking for ad-hoc and/or regular weekend work with a lovely family, outside of my regular hours with the NHS (M-F, 9-5)
