I’m not sure exactly how to start this, but here goes! Over the last few months my husband and I have been struggling to find the right nanny for our two children while we’re away. We both often work away, and can be out of the country for several days at a time – so we need to make sure that both ourselves and our children are completely comfortable with their childcarer.
>>>> Thanks for all the interest so far! We've updated the job specification based upon feedback from some nannies who kindly contacted us <<<<
Our last nanny left us because of our children’s challenging behaviour, and because they just didn’t get on with her. So, to make sure that we find someone perfect we decided we’d let the kids tell us exactly what they wanted, and this is what they came up with:
1. We want to play football and other stuff with them
2. I want them to play Fortnite and FIFA with me
3. I want them to be fun and not have any rules and we want to stay up to whatever time we want
4. We want to make cakes every day and have pizza for dinner all the time
5. We don’t want them to be angry with us ever
6. They have to do all of our homework and I don’t want to do any chores
“If they’re nice to us we promise not to be naughty or prank them and we’ll always be nice to them. But if they shout at us or are mean, then we’ll be naughty and get upset.
“We can’t wait to meet you and have lots of fun together!”
We have such demanding careers that we’re only at home once every other weekend, and one of us is home for three nights during the week, so we just really need a committed and open-minded nanny who can cater to our children’s needs whilst we’re away.
The kids are seven and nine and both go to the same primary school, so taking them there and picking them up in the afternoon will be one of your responsibilities, as well as obviously getting them up in the morning and getting them ready. As outlined above, we’ll also need you to help the kids with their homework/do it for them.
We know that letting the kids do what they want isn’t a conventional way of parenting, but we’d much rather them be happy and content whilst we’re away.
The successful candidate will have living quarters within our Leicestershire home with a private bathroom and bedroom. You’ll be required to work 48 hours a week, but as I said earlier one of us will be home three nights a week, however we will be getting home after tea time. Your hours every week will vary, however you’ll be notified at least two weeks in advance on when we need you.
There’s going to be a month-long probationary period just so that we can make sure the kids are completely happy – but if they are then hopefully it should all be plain sailing from there! The annual salary will be £70,000, and you’ll also be entitled to 28 days holiday, as well as bank holidays off. We can also discuss time off in lieu.
We’re excited to try and find someone, and even though we know our kids are a bit demanding, they really are lovely children once you get to know them and I’m just hoping we can find someone willing to fulfil their requests and make them as happy as can be whilst we’re away from home.
