Stanstead Mill is a small day nursery based in Stanstead Abbotts which cares for child 0-5 years.
We offer early sessions from 6:30am and can stay open until 6:30pm if required.
1pm -4pm we offer fully funded 2 year funded and 3 and 4 year funded sessions, but also offer these hours throughout the nursery week for those wishing to use them in large time slots (such as an all day session)
We have 3 rooms
This is for our very little ones. A small, light room dedicated to our 6 weeks to 20 month year olds. Led by our nursery manager Sinead, the babies spend their days enjoying wonderful sensory activities, stories, cuddles and lots of singing.
These are our toddlers from 20 months until 3 years
We run this room like a preschool with enough structure for the children to help them feel safe and secure but with enough flexibility to allow them to explore and express themselves.
We have a large space for them to role play, investigate, play with our heuristic toys as well as sing, dance and play games such as the parachute.
These are our biggest boys and girls - 3 years until school. We also offer a linked provision with St Andrews where we drop off after breakfast and collect ready for lunch.
In this room we are building on those 'school ready' skills, creating life long learners through a fun curriculum based around your child's likes. We have a lovely area where they can free paint, play with dough, read stories, mark make, play games on our interactive smart board and much more.
We enjoy a Melody Monkeys session run by Sally each Wednesday for the whole nursery.
Other activities we enjoy includes baking, outside play, yoga and loose parts play.
The nursery is inspired by the Reggio approach- bring the inside out and learning from the outside environment.
We have a small garden that is the perfect size for our nursery children. It has lots of areas for the children to explore including a vegetable patch, under cover area for the smaller children, water wall, play house, chickens, mud kitchen and over looks the Stanstead mill stream where ducks , moorhens, geese and swans visit us everyday.
Our menu is amazing- and it is something we will always shout about! It is that delicious we even have our own cookbook. The child all have a wonderful home cooked lunch which is nutritious and tasty.
Our cook creates everything from scratch and in return for these delicious meals- we are creating good eaters that are happy to explore new tastes.
We are proud that all our staff are qualified or studying towards a qualification. Shelley, the nursery owner holds a degree in Education and Early Years Professional Status, meaning the quality of teaching across the setting is high.
All staff hold safeguarding training and we are 100% Paediatric first aid trained.

We have been sending our eldest to Stanstead Mill since he was nine months old (he is now nearly four) and his younger brother has now joined him. We love the small intimate feel of the nursery - it really feels like an extension of the family. The children have their own areas but they are not segregated - they can see and interact with the children in other groups. The long opening hours are a godsend too as it allows us to commute into London for work. The wrap around care with St Andrew’s is also such a valuable feature - I have many jealous mum friends who would love their nurseries to offer something similar! The staff at Stanstead Mill are all lovely and they are constantly looking for ways to ensure the children have a more fun and fulfilling experience. All in all we can’t fault them.

Thank you for such a lovely review Clare.
Our little boy started at Stanstead Mill at 10 months old. After a lovely settling in period (1 hour, then 2, then 4, then two almost full days) he went full time (8am-6pm) five days a week.
He's the first baby in our extended family to go to nursery, so we were a bit nervous, but we had absolutely no reason to worry.
He loves Stanstead Mill and the team who look after him. When we carry him up the stairs he gets so excited, and he lights up when he sees the staff and children.
He eats really well - he clearly enjoys the freshly cooked food (better than he gets from us!) and it's made him a better eater at home. He doesn't drink as much milk at nursery as he does with us, but that's probably because he eats so much food!
In the photos we get he always looks so happy. The weekly music woman who comes seems to be his favourite person in the world! He also is getting more and more social, which we think is because he gets to play with other children all week. There's a great selection of toys and we love seeing the pictures of him trying new things, like mark making.
He loves playing outside, splashing in the water toys, and pointing at the ducks. He loves them so much that we think "duck" is his first proper word!
He doesn't nap brilliantly there because he tends to need to be in his own cot in the dark, and that would be the only thing that could be better for our particular baby - a quieter and darker room for the smaller babies to nap in.
We're so happy we chose Stanstead Mill for him and it really is like a home from home for our little boy.
