My Summary
About Me
My name is Ellie, and I'd want to introduce myself. I am an easy-going, reliable, fun-loving, empathetic, and professional, who specializes in Children & Young People Consultations. A little about myself: from childhood to young adulthood, I struggled in school, not quite fitting in, struggling to relate to teachers' teaching styles and methods, often feeling misunderstood in social circles, and living in my own world throughout. These difficulties continued until I was diagnosed with Dyslexia at university. That day, I held my Dyslexia assessment report in my hands, and it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. My brain function is different from many people's, which is why I was different from my peers and why the teachers failed to relate to me.
Even though I had thought there was something wrong with me before them, with that assessment diagnostic in my hand, it all made sense, I am unique and special because there were not many people like myself then. Since then, I have had this passion to share my story with parents who were experiencing similar difficulties that my parent went through and whose child/ren are experiencing similar emotions, negative thoughts, and distractive behaviours like me.
My Experience
I've worked with a variety of families, children, and teenagers, assisting them in recognising their own uniqueness and supporting them in learning new strategies and techniques that can be integrated their special qualities into a better understanding of who they are, particularly within their families, educational and social environments. My work with children and young people is unique in that I teach, inspire, and encourage them to celebrate and value their individuality and differences.
I have over 25 years of childcare work experience. I am a qualified Early Years Practitioner with a BA degree in Education Studies Combined with Health Studies. I have worked in various childcare settings, including working in nurseries as Room Leader, I have worked in various schools as Teaching Assistant with Key Stages 1, 2, and 3. I have also worked at various Youth canters and Youth pathway houses as an Outreach Youth Worker and Key Worker. Over the years I have also worked in schools and in colleges with Children and young people with special educational needs, such as Learning differences/difficulties, autism, Asperger’s syndrome, and ADHD. One of my greatest strengths is working with children and young people experiencing behavioural difficulties.
I provide support to parents who want to improve their relationship with their child/ren. I also provide support to parents and children to cope and manage new transitions, from the new arrival, blended families, school transitioning, moving houses, and bereavement. The areas that I am currently working therapeutically with children and young people are bereavement, loss, transitions, anxiety, relational difficulties, depression. I have been providing homework support for children and young people for several years now. My specialist subject areas are Maths, English, Science, Geography, and History (KS1-KS3). Finally, I am an Ofsted Registered Nanny. I am currently only able to offer a Virtual Nanny position.
