Joanna’s Childminding Service – Colquhoun Park, Bearsden

Hello, my name is Joanna and I am a registered childminder living in Colquhoun Park, Bearsden.

I used to work as a teacher and have many years of experience with children. Caring for little ones is not just a job for me – it’s a privilege. I’m also a proud mum to two amazing children (18 and 14 years old), happily married to my husband Andrew, and the proud owner of Roddy, our gentle golden retriever therapy dog.

Roddy has been specially trained as a therapy dog, and the children love spending time with him. He provides comfort, encouragement, and a sense of calm – helping children build confidence and learn about kindness, empathy, and caring for animals.

About My Service

I provide high-quality, home-based childcare in a safe and welcoming environment.

My dedicated playroom with ensuite bathroom is designed specifically for children’s comfort, learning, and play.

I follow the GIRFEC approach and the Scottish Government’s Early Years Framework, supporting each child’s learning and development.

I carry out daily risk assessments on rooms and toys to ensure safety, following the SHANARRI wellbeing indicators.

I integrate elements of the Montessori method in my setting, encouraging independence and curiosity.

Meet Roddy – Our Therapy Dog

Roddy is a gentle golden retriever who has been trained as a therapy dog.

He brings calmness, comfort, and joy to the children in my care.

Children learn about kindness, responsibility, and empathy through safe, supervised interactions with him.

Spending time with Roddy also helps promote emotional wellbeing and a sense of security.

Food & Healthy Living

I provide healthy snacks and encourage children to help prepare some of their meals.

Children learn about where food comes from, how to store it, and how to dispose of waste in an environmentally friendly way.

Activities & Environment

My home is located next to Colquhoun Park, with a fantastic play area right on our doorstep.

We attend local playgroups and childminding groups regularly, giving children the chance to socialise and enjoy group activities.

With Roddy and other daily activities, I make sure children receive one-to-one attention while still having plenty of opportunities to interact with others.

Partnership with Parents

I work closely with parents, regularly discussing each child’s progress and needs.

I use SCMA contract forms for all paperwork, ensuring clarity and professionalism.

Opening Hours

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Closed before and after school
