About Us

Ardeley St Lawrence Primary School is a thriving, well resourced school in the village of Ardeley, mid-way between Stevenage and Buntingford.

The building, some of which dates from 1835, is in a very rural setting with extensive playing fields and gardens overlooking acres of woods and farmland. We take full advantage of this idyllic setting and feel secure in knowing that our children leave with the confidence and skills needed to fit them for life. We enjoy the status of an outstanding voluntary aided Church of England school.

We take children from the age of 3 to 11 and from a wide range of preschool settings. We believe that a good education is one of the most precious gifts a child can receive and our expectations of every child, regardless of their ability, are high. We place great value on the acquisition of lifelong skills for learning alongside a thirst for knowledge
and an understanding of the world and our experienced teachers and support staff are committed to providing an inspired and creative curriculum so that every child is motivated to learn.

Children flourish in the calm, purposeful learning environment here at Ardeley.

Our Childcare Provision

Our After-School Club runs every evening from the end of the school day to 6pm.

This provision is led by Mrs Colman who many of our Ardeley community will remember as our Early Years Teacher up to about 2 years ago. Apart from being a highly experienced and well-respected teaching professional, Mrs Colman is a trained Forest School practitioner and brings her love of the outdoors to enable some fantastic activities which link closely with our local outdoor community.

As well as working outdoors whenever we can, the children who attend our after-school provision also enjoy a healthy tea which includes sandwiches – fresh and toasted, beans on toast, pasta, fish fingers, yoghurt, cheese, flapjacks, fruit etc with milk, juice or water to drink. The children help to prepare their tea and wash up afterwards.

After tea we enjoy an indoor activity – construction, creation or free play and often finish with a story. As the children get older and have homework to do, then we hear reading and provide a space where homework can be done.

Our After School Provision is available to all children from Nursery to Year 6. Some children attend every evening, some for 4 evenings and we also accommodate those who need provision for just the occasional evening following a pre-arranged booking. The more children that attend on a permanent basis, the cheaper our provision will become as we endeavour to provide a service to our community.

Ardeley St. Lawrence accepts child-care vouchers which will help working parents off-set some of the costs.

Please contact the school office for further details or to book any required sessions on 01438 861 284.
