About Us
We are located on the Rotherham/Sheffield border, close to the Meadowhall shopping complex and we cater for children from the ages of 3-11. We have a fantastic site with plenty of space both outside and inside for our children to experience many different learning opportunities.
Blackburn is a very welcoming school, with children who are keen learners and staff who are committed to helping every child achieve their potential. We are aiming for excellence and all staff, children, parents and governors share this whole school vision. We want our children to be happy and enjoy their work whilst achieving the best that they can. We strongly believe that every child matters and have high hopes and high aspirations for all our children.
We strive hard to provide children with the key skills that will help them with every aspect of their life. We believe in children working together, supporting and challenging each other to do better, and our curriculum is designed to include projects that help children learn new skills and apply them creatively.
If you would like to look around our school you will be very welcome, please contact the school office for an appointment.
Our Childcare Provision
Our Foundation Stage is set up as one Unit with both FS1 and FS2 children having the opportunity to learn alongside each other and receive the best education they can. There is free flow between the two rooms and the outdoor environment for all children at set times during the day where they can access a wide variety of exciting play-based learning opportunities. Teacher led sessions are taught mostly in the different year groups and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which applies to children from birth to the end of the FS2 year.
The Unit is designed to provide an imaginative and exciting environment where children can explore and develop their learning to help make sense of the world. They practise and build up ideas, concepts and skills, they learn how to problem solve, take risks, and understand the need for self-discipline and rules.
As a school we recognise the importance of ensuring children develop emotionally and socially and where children are identified as needing additional support with this, we provide nurture groups within the Unit.
Our staff are experienced in early child development and are good role models for the children, demonstrating the importance of respect and teamwork. They work closely with parents and carers, recognising the important role they play in the education of their children. Children’s progress is tracked throughout the year and the end of FS2 they are assessed on the Foundation Stage profile which is reported to parent and carers.
FS2 places in our school are allocated according to the Rotherham Local Authority admission criteria and procedures. Information can be found on the council website. FS1 places can be applied for directly at the school office. This will be either a morning or an afternoon place. Where we have spaces, we can also take children the term after they turn three so please ask in school if you are interested in this provision.
Where parents wish to access more than just a morning or an afternoon session, we do offer an extended service provision including a supervised lunch and the possibility of staying for a further session. This is at a cost and is dependent on places available in the nursery sessions.
