St Joseph's Specialist School and College is a non-maintained special school school in Cranleigh. According to the latest government data, it has approximately 72 pupils and allows entry for children aged 5-19.
About Us
St Joseph’s Specialist School and College is a co-educational residential and day school catering for children between the ages of 5 – 19 with moderate, complex and severe learning difficulties. St Joseph’s has excellent provision for learners, within the above categories, who are on the Autistic Spectrum.
The school has developed excellent provision for learners with communication and interaction difficulties and in 2009 achieved specialist status in the SEN area of Communication and Interaction. We have a purpose built therapies centre which was completed in 2011.
St Joseph’s is non-maintained and has full DCSF approval – we currently deal with around 16 local authorities and have built up a wide reputation for high quality provision for learners with complex special needs.
Our Childcare Provision
St Joseph’s is registered with Ofsted as a children’s home. There are five boarding houses that encourage and help the learners to maximise their full potential.
The residential learners have the benefit of the extended curriculum, they learn and achieve in many aspects of their lives and develop key skills towards independent living. The learners spend time pursuing their various hobbies whilst achieving their objectives. The residential staff encourage the learners in all areas of independence and the development of skills to enable interaction out in the community.
There are excellent links to education and therapies to ensure a cohesive and consistent approach in all areas of the school
Staffing of the houses are key to success, each house has a team and deputy team leader leading a team of care staff. All staff receive key training to enable them to support the learners and achieve their potential.
