About Us

St Martin's C of E Primary School - ' Inspiring children to be the best they can be'

At St Martin’s we aim to encourage a love of learning and to open doors for
your child to experience a wide and engaging curriculum. We are in the business of ‘building
people’ and so ‘the whole child’ is of importance to us. Inside every child there is enormous
potential and we will be working with you to unlock that potential, to ensure that your child
knows what success feels like and then uses the confidence that success brings to
encourage them to tackle areas of difficulty. We will work in partnership with you to ensure
that your child is the best that they can be.

Our Childcare Provision

We have 13 classes at St Martin’s and they are organised in the following way.
There are usually 30 children in each class although currently our Early Years Classes are
organised in two classes of 22 and 23 children respectively.
Foundation Stage (Early Years Classes) Penguin Cla Penguin Class Penguin Class Parrot Class Parrot Class Parrot Class

KS1 Y1 – Robin Class Robin Class Robin Class
Y1/2 – Chicken Class Chicken Class Chicken Class
Y2 – Owl Class Owl Class Owl Class
KS2 We have 2 classes in Years 3, 4, 5 3, 4, 5 3, 4, 5 and 6
There are 45 places in Foundation Stage and KS1 and therefore the school operates a split
Year 1/Year 2 class. Class teachers and the Senior Leadership Team create the Year 1 and
Year 2 classes following very careful consideration of academic ability, the boy/girl balance
and friendships. We aim to ensure that each of the three KS1 classes have a full range of
academic ability and are well-balanced classes in their own right. Mixing the children during
this phase has some benefits as it strengthens personal and social relationships for all of the
children.
At the beginning of Year 3 we take in 15 children from local infant schools, predominantly St
Michael’s, and so we are able to create two classes in each year.

There is a Nursery on site, which is not run by the school - Stepping Stones
Our After School Club operates every day after school until 6pm and is managed by Clubland
