About Us
The co-educational Nursery is run by highly capable, enthusiastic staff and accommodated in its own bright, airy and modern rooms within the Prep School. A varied and stimulating range of teaching aids is on hand for the youngsters, who are admitted to the Nursery from age two.
From age four to seven, Pre-Prep introduces the girls to a stimulating curriculum which lays the foundation for a successful, rewarding and enjoyable education, and allows their individuality to shine through within a structured day. But their formal school day is only part of the picture; we encourage parents to be active in the further development of reading and other interests outside of St Teresa’s, so that the girls begin to understand the connection between school and home life.
At age seven, girls enter the main Prep, and a new phase in their life at school. Personalities are developing, and individuality is recognised and encouraged at all levels, facilitated through new opportunities for curricular and extra-curricular activity.
As the years progress, close links with the senior school are encouraged and, with continuity of education from Nursery right through to Sixth Form now possible on the same site, the benefits of a cohesive, managed school life become clear.
St Teresa’s Prep – Girls from 7-11
A very happy, friendly and important part of St Teresa’s School, and whose young ladies are an example to us all. There is automatic entry from the Prep School to the Senior School.
St Teresa's Senior School - Girls from 11 - 18
There is no “one size fits all” at St Teresa’s; our girls are individuals and valued as such. No one is invisible, and we know who needs to be stretched and who needs extra help. This commitment to individual care underpins our whole ethos and approach to teaching each and every student within our care.
A ‘can-do’ attitude is encouraged at all times, and a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond the curriculum enables girls to develop and discover new abilities, interests and talents while they study towards achieving first-rate GCSEs and A levels.
No-one is pigeon-holed. Talent and achievement of all types are praised and confidence blossoms as a result. Our primary aim is, of course, to educate, but to do so in the true meaning of the word; St Teresa’s is not an academic hothouse but aims to draw out the talents latent in every girl so that at St Teresa’s she will become the best she can be. No class is greater than 20. GCSE groupings are smaller and, for A Level lessons, a tutorial style in preparation for university. Girls are supported but encouraged to think independently and to take responsibility for their own learning. This leads to excellent A level and GCSE results from a broad-ability intake which, on a like for like basis, shows that our most academically able girls will outperform their counterparts in highly selective schools whilst being able to carry on with their sport, music, drama and other interests.
