About Us
The Woodwater Academy, which became an academy in January 2013, is a member of the Primary Academies Trust. The Trust comprises of eight primary schools sited across Devon, whose aim is to deliver excellence in education through collaborative working and through the delivery of high-quality education for all its pupils.
Each of the schools has its own Head of School, and Woodwater Academy also has a Deputy Head of School, and these school leaders work closely together to ensure that we deliver a curriculum which meets the needs of all pupils, offering opportunities for our pupils that are broad and challenging. In addition, there is an Executive Leadership team for the Trust as a whole. Mr Gary Chown the CEO, Mr Ryan Lewis the head of finance and operations and four Executive Headteachers: Mrs Helen Nicholls, Mrs Jan Baker, Mrs Claire Baillie and our own Headteacher, Mrs Ashley Leeson. The executive team oversees and supports school improvement for all the Trust schools to ensure that an excellent level of education is provided for all our pupils.
For the children in the Trust schools, there are regular opportunities to work and play with children from all of the schools. Whether at gifted and talented events, participating in shared residential activities, or in the sporting arena, our pupils benefit from the expertise and enthusiasm of a large group of talented and skilled teachers and assistants.
At Woodwater Academy, we do not believe it is enough just to give children a grasp of the basic skills, we believe we need to help each individual child to use and develop those skills. Schooling is about every aspect of human personality and achievement and so an important part of the work we do in school is promoting a sense of the joy of learning. Developing the children’s personal, social and emotional skills starts in our Foundation Stage and remains important throughout each child’s time with us.
We are extremely proud of the positive relationships that we have with our families and the wider community in which they live. It is our aim to work as one team in order to deliver the highest standards of education to all of our children.
Our Childcare Provision
At Woodwater Academy we have a nursery for children from age 3, up until they start Reception. Children can join our nursery the term after their 3rd birthday. Sessions run 38 weeks a year, term time only. The morning session is from 9.15am - 12.15 and the afternoon session is from 12.15pm - 3.15pm, children can join us for full or part-days. Additional paid sessions are available above the 15 funded hour entitlement. An application for our Nursery can be found on our website
